Today we welcomed 30 students from East St. Louis School District 189 to spend the day with us on campus and imagine themselves at SIU. Before their visit here, Chancellor Austin A. Lane and admissions staff, visited the students at their school yesterday.

They got to tour our REC Center and residence halls, learn about resources on campus, and even take a selfie with Chancellor Lane's hologram at our selfie station!

Last month, September, was National Student Parent Month. In celebration, we have asked some of our exceptional Student Parents to offer their advice to others in similar situations. Here's what they had to say:

September is National Parent Student Month and we at SIU have our own brave souls who have stepped up for the challenge and offered their advice.

There are some places you visit.
And then there are places that stay with you. Carbondale has a way of doing that.

Homecoming is almost here, and from Oct. 12–17, Salukis from every decade are coming back for Decades of the Dawg: 75 Years of Saluki Pride.

Back to the people who knew you when. Back to the places that still feel familiar. Back to late nights, old stories, new memories and that feeling you only really understand if you’ve been a Saluki.

This year brings a full week of Homecoming traditions, music, gatherings and reasons to make your way back to Carbondale.

So text the group chat. Call the roommate you haven’t seen in too long. Find your favorite SIU shirt.
