I think the whole department was happy to see August end. From the first weekend, August came out swinging. From med calls to wild fires to MVAs to back country rescues, August had it all. A total 32 calls for services, quite possibly the busiest month we have ever had.

100% containment on the Wildhorse Fire.
And while we're at a belated THANK YOU to all the Blaine County fire departments ( Bellevue Fire and Rescue, Sun Valley Fire Department, BC South Fire, Ketchum Fire Department and Hailey Fire and Rescue) for answering the call for assistance when the fire turned towards Carey.

Update 8/30/26 Sunday 8:56pm
The Wild Horse Fire is 100% contained as of 8:00pm today. An infrared flight was flown over the fire yesterday evening and showed no heat on the fire perimeter. Crews continued to strengthen and improved containment lines today. Over the next few days dust devils from the ash and variable winds will be visible.

Update 8/28/26 Friday 7:18pm
Crews worked aggressively throughout the day to knock down remaining fire activity, strengthen containment and secure the fire perimeter. All forward progress of the fire has stopped. Light precipitation was received over the fire area, and currently, there are no visible signs of smoke. Crews remain spread out, continuing to secure the fires perimeter. At this time, conditions are looking favorable. Fire is currently 21% contained.
We appreciate the support of our cooperators and the local community as crews work to secure the fire.
Updates will be provided as conditions develop.

Small roadside brush fire tonight on Gannett Road. Started when a chained popped off. Luckily the driver noticed, stopped and called it in.

The Blaine County Sheriff has lifted the Level 2 Set Statuses for the SouthCarey and EastCarey evacuation zones in the Wildhorse Fire, effective 8/27/2026. Both zones will go to Level 1 READY STATUS. Please maintain situational awareness should conditions change. If you feel you are in danger, do not wait for an evacuation order.
