Tuesday Training:

For this weeks training the Borough Companies focused on vehicle extraction and stabilization. Members started by going over Rescue 45 and learning about the different equipment it carries and where those tools are located. Basic vehicle stabilization and the use of struts were covered next. For the last portion of the class members were taught basic extraction methods using the hydraulic tools. A lot of newer members were in attendance and this was a great opportunity for them to learn about to tools and how they operate. While extraction is not a primary function of ours it’s important to cross train as we supplement manpower when needed on incidents. Company 41 had 15 members in attendance.

Special thanks to Company 45 for setting the class up and teaching the members!

🔥House Fire 🔥

Overnight Chief 41 , Chief 241, Engine 241 w/5 , Tanker 41 w/2 and utility responded to West Pennsboro Township for a working house fire. While Enroute HQ advised the report of the back of the house on fire and live feed confirming. Given the information HQ immediately started the 1st alarm assignment.

Chief 41 arrived reporting a 2 story residential structure with smoke showing alpha side second floor, a victim on the porch roof and fire showing from the Charlie side 1st floor. Engine 241 arrived shortly after pulling past the structure to leave room for the truck. Crews were tasked with splitting their assignment, half for victim rescue from the front porch via ground ladder and half for suppression efforts. Crews expediently removed the victim from the porch roof who was able to walk down the ladder assisted. Several other occupants were able to self extricate before FD arrival. Upon entering the structure fire crews on the alpha side were met with high heat and zero visibility.

Additional units arrived from Co.45, 47 & 38. Tower 45 was tasked with roof ventilation, Engine 45 supplied Engine 241 and supplemented the truck company. Engine 38 stretched a second handline off Engine 241 to the bravo side for suppression on the first floor. Engine 247 supplied Engine 241 and sent all additional manpower to assist with suppression and searches.

Crews worked the 3 story building for 3 hours chasing pockets of fire and properly overhauling the building.

Strong work from all departments on scene contributed to bringing this fire under control!
Our thoughts are with the family as they navigate this difficult time.

Thank You to DLA Professional Firefighters Association IAFF F-221 for transferring Engine 69 to provide first due coverage!

Tuesday was a busy day at the U!

We will start with the Engine Company responding to 10 calls for service yesterday. A wide variety of calls were handled including several fire alarms, an elevator malfunction, multiple auto accidents, a vehicle fire (good intent), and a hot tub on fire impinging on a house.

Engine 241 was committed for several hours on a fatal accident on York Rd. We will not release any further details on this accident. While the engine was committed the station was well staffed and handled additional calls. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Thank you to our fire police officers who remained on scene providing scene safety for several hours as well.

Last night we were able to get some training in between calls with Company 39. We continued our engine riding assignment responsibility module and covered the hook and can position. Members ran through various scenarios at the county training grounds. Crews were tasked with masking up in 30 seconds or less and making entry to perform primary search operations with the hook and can. Crews then rotated to the drill tower focusing on finding fire locations and directing a crew on where to deploy hose lines to for fire attack. A ladder station was also in place for members to throw ladders in between stations. Thanks to all of our members for putting in the extra effort on a busy day. Company 41 had over 20 members attend training last night!

Thanks to Nikki Peterson for another batch of great photos!

🔥House Fire🔥

Overnight Chief 41 , Chief 241 , Engine 241 w/6 , Tanker 41 w/2 and the utility responded to West Pennsboro Township for the report of a house on fire .

While Enroute CC911 advised of the back of the house on fire . Chief 148 arrived confirming the dispatch. Chief 41 arrived shortly after assuming command . E241 crew arrived and deployed a handline to the front door. Crews forced entry and were met with fire conditions on the first floor that extended out of the back of the house. E241 crew made a quick knock on the first floor and worked their way to the second floor. Crews were met with fire at the top of the stairs .

All searches were negative and crews spent significant time opening up and completing salvage and overhaul operations. Company 41 was committed on the scene for a little over 2 hours.

Thankfully the resident was able to get out and had no injuries. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them during this difficult time .

Many thanks to Northeast Fire & Rescue Company for transferring the tanker with a crew of 4 . While we were committed on our incident Tanker 20 handled a fire alarm in Middlesex township. Our friends from Co.20 stayed on station upon our return and helped clean up hose and re pack attack lines on Engine 241. We cannot thank them enough for their support and continued working relationship !!!
