Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District Mission Oaks Recreation and Park District creates healthy, sustainable parks and recreational service

Mission Oaks developed and maintains 11 parks, totalling 88.75 acres. TSix school parks were originally developed and maintained by the park district; however, four of those (Billy Mitchell, Del Paso Manor, Greer and Starr King) were given back to the San Juan Unified School District. The remaining two school parks (Cowan and Sierra Oaks), which amount to about 5.1 acres, continue to be maintained by Mission Oaks. In addition, the District maintains the County-owned Hazelwood Greens, a stormwater detention facility of about 2 acres. All totaled, the District provides a bit over 96 acres of parkland for the community’s enjoyment. Three of these facilities, Gibbons, Mission North, and Swanston are community parks while the others serve as neighborhood parks. Located in the northeast corner of the district and within Gibbons Park is the District’s larger community center. The District office is located on Mission Avenue within Mission North Park. The newest district development, completed in 2008, is the Swanston Community Center at Swanston Park in the southwest corner of the district.

Happy World Teachers’ Day! 🍎💚

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible teachers and educators at Mission Oaks Recreation & Park District who make such a meaningful impact on the children in our programs. Their patience, encouragement, creativity, and dedication help create positive environments where kids can learn, grow, build friendships, and feel supported every step of the way.

First, we want to shine a spotlight on Miss Alison, our wonderful preschool teacher here at Mission Oaks. She helps guide our youngest learners through such an important transitional period, as preschool may be one of their first opportunities to experience an active social environment outside of home. Through play, learning, and plenty of encouragement, she helps our little ones build confidence and discover the world around them.

We also want to recognize Miss Bella and Miss Noelly, who lead our after-school programs and bring so much energy and creativity to each day! From planning engaging activities to creating a welcoming space where kids can be themselves, they make sure our after-schoolers have a place to learn, play, connect, and have fun. Their influence reaches far beyond the activities they plan; they’re positive role models who help make every afternoon a little brighter.

To all of our teachers, thank you for showing up, inspiring our kids, and helping shape the next generation one day at a time. We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Mission Oaks family!

Last Friday, we had some very special visitors at Mission Oaks, O.A.K.S Program! 🐰🐹

Our friends from Hawks Ranch Petting Zoo stopped by and gave our kids the chance to get up close and interact with some adorable animals, including bunnies, guinea pigs, and even a chinchilla!

It was such a fun-filled day of hands-on learning, excitement, and plenty of smiles! We love creating opportunities like this for our O.A.K.S kids to try new things, make connections, and create memories they’ll remember for years to come.

Join us for weekly games, opportunities to learn and improve your skills, and plenty of time to socialize with others in the community. Games are held Mondays and Thursdays from 1–4 PM.
