🔬🧪 Science in Action in Mrs. Giddens’ 5th Grade Classroom!

Our 5th grade scientists put their knowledge of potential and kinetic energy to the test with a hands-on rubber band investigation!

Students worked in teams to stretch rubber bands to different distances, launch cups across their tables, and measure how far they traveled.

Through experimenting, measuring, and recording their results, students explored how stored potential energy transforms into kinetic energy when released.

There was plenty of teamwork, problem-solving, trial and error, and excitement as students discovered that science doesn’t always go exactly as planned!

Learning by doing is what makes science so much fun! 🧪📏

Did you know that water molecules are constantly moving?

Our Biology students explored osmosis through a three-day gummy bear lab! Students observed how gummy bears changed when placed in distilled water versus salt water.

They learned that gummy bears placed in distilled water grow as water moves into them, while gummy bears placed in salt water can shrink as water moves out. These changes demonstrate how water moves in response to differences in solute concentration as the system moves toward equilibrium.

This hands-on investigation helped students connect an important biological concept to real-world observations and strengthen their scientific reasoning skills.

Who knew gummy bears could teach us so much about biology?
