Fun Fact Friday!
The call doesn't end when crews return to the station. On a recent train car fire, our members stayed behind to clean hose and give the trucks a much needed rinse. Volunteer fire departments rely on the extra effort and dedication of their members, and we can't thank them enough!

Last Monday, September 21, 2026 at 8:37 AM, the Carroll Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a train car on fire. Crews were on scene for over six hours putting out the fire and cooling hot spots. Carroll Fire returned to service at 3:22 PM.

On long calls like this, we are reminded of the generous support from our community, including the local businesses who allow our volunteers to take time away to serve their community. We're also grateful for businesses like Culver's of Carroll for providing food on these long calls.

📅 Firehouse Formal – November 7, 2026

06/16/2026

For training this past month, we focused on two important aspects of fireground operations - hose and ladder mechanics.

Our first night, firefighters worked in groups of three to maneuver a charged hoseline through an obstacle course, after which they had to flow water toward two targets. This drill was effective at getting our guys to think about how to move hose through a space as quickly, strategically, and efficiently as possible.

On our second night, we focused on ladder mechanics. Inside, firefighters practiced rescuing a dummy from a second story window, while honing skills like leg locks and safely guiding someone down a ladder. Outside, a few members practiced strategically raising the ladder on Tower 8 as if on scene. To practice their precision, their task was to land a cone tied to the bucket onto a cone on the roof of the fire station.

These drills are good practice for our members, and they help develop essential skills when seconds count on a fire scene.
