Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Awards Grant To City of Carrollton Police Department

(Carrollton, Ga) The Carrollton Police Department is pleased to announce it has received a $54,287.80 High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). Funding for this grant is provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is awarded based upon the partnership with The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in helping to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities across the State of Georgia.

High Visibility Enforcement combines highly visible and proactive law enforcement to target a specific traffic safety issue designed to change unlawful and dangerous driving behaviors that contribute to most of the fatal and serious-injury traffic crashes on our roads. Law enforcement efforts are combined with visibility elements and public notification on the enforcement campaign to educate the public on traffic safety and promote voluntary compliance with the law.

“Using data to identify where and when traffic crashes are happening in local communities helps local law enforcement agencies determine when and where to patrol roads and highways in hopes of being able to save lives and reduce crashes through the enforcement of all traffic laws,” said Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Traffic laws are to protect everyone traveling on the road and that obeying them helps to make sure you and everyone else makes it home safely every day.”

Police Chief Joel Richards states that “The Carrollton Police Department is proud to partner with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in order to provide funding for our Traffic Unit as they work to keep those living and traveling through the City of Carrollton safe”.

As law enforcement partners in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI and Click It Or Ticket seatbelt campaigns, the Carrollton Police Department will also conduct mobilizations throughout the year in coordination with GOHS’s year-round waves of high visibility patrols and multi-jurisdictional sobriety checkpoints.

The grant will continue through September of 2027.

It's National School Bus Safety Week! 🚌 Did you know that, in recent years, Georgia has taken legislative action to enforce stricter penalties for drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses? Violations captured by recorded images on school bus cameras, in addition to those identified by law enforcement officers, now carry a fixed fine of $1,000, with escalating consequences for repeat offenders. These measures aim to hold drivers accountable and encourage compliance with school bus safety laws to protect students. Thank you for taking extra caution to ensure student safety as you are on the roads!

🍂 Dearest Summer,

It’s October 13th. We’ve enjoyed your visit, but it’s officially closing time. You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.

We’re supposed to be enjoying crisp fall mornings, hoodies, and pumpkin spice. 🎃 Not sweating just walking to the car. 😓

Please gather your heat, humidity, and whatever else you brought with you and head toward the nearest exit.

We will be happy to es**rt you out. Okay, bye. 🚔
