LEPC’s were created to help communities plan for emergencies involving hazardous substances.

The West Georgia Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee’s Environmental Excellence Award recognizes civic, corporate and governmental leadership that contributes to the strategy of environmental sustainability by performance and action. Acting as liaison between industry and emergency response, the LEPC is in a unique position to evaluate the dependability and trustworthiness of an environmental program. Because of that view, this award was created. It is intended to identify and commend LEPC member groups and companies within our community. The recipients of this award have gone above and beyond the mere requirements of the statutes, and by doing so, have made our community a better place in which to live.

Carroll EMC is a membership Co-Op that provides both energy and broadband across the region. Carroll EMC offers many sustainable initiative programs that their members can take advantage of:

• The Drive Free for a Year program is an incentive to take that extra step in becoming more environmentally friendly. Carroll EMC Members who choose to purchase a 100% electric vehicle (EV) are eligible to drive free for the first year of ownership.
• Qualified Members who lease or purchase a new plug-in 100% EV could qualify for a monthly credit of $30 on their power bill to cover the cost of charging the EV for one year.
• To encourage the purchase and installment of energy-efficient electric water heaters, Carroll EMC offers Member rebated for those who replace a gas water heater with an electric water heater in an existing home.
• Carroll EMC and 37 other Georgia electric cooperatives are Member-owners of Green Power EMC, a cooperative that provides electricity generated by renewable resources. It is the largest operational green power program in the Southeastern United States. Green Power EMC serves its Member EMCs by finding, screening, analyzing and negotiating power purchase agreements with Georgia-based renewable resource providers including solar, landfill gas, hydro, wood waste and wind.
• Carroll EMC is participating in 35.1MW of solar energy generating 77,384MWH of energy–enough to power nearly 5,300 homes for a year! The energy generated by our solar facilities is used as a part of our overall generation mix that supplies electricity to all our members. The renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by these facilities are used to support renewable energy programs offered by Carroll EMC.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Carroll EMC for being an outstanding power cooperative and a true community partner. Your unwavering support for various groups across the region has made a significant impact, fostering growth, collaboration, and positivity. Additionally, your commitment to environmental responsibility sets a shining example for others, demonstrating that we can work together to create a brighter, greener future. Thank you for your dedication to both the people and the planet!

The Officers and Members of the West Georgia Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee take great pleasure in recognizing Carroll EMC by presenting them with our Annual LEPC Environmental Excellence Award this 5th Day of December 2024.
