Texas is heading into its season of severe weather when tornadoes occur the most. The weather service warns residents to be weather aware and know what to do when a tornado warning is sent.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WEATHER WATCH AND
WARNING?
According to the National Weather Service, a tornado watch means a tornado is possible, and a tornado warning means a tornado has been spotted nearby. During a tornado watch, make an emergency plan, check supplies and be ready to act if a tornado approaches. Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur.
The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states. If a tornado has been sighted or shows up on weather radar, a tornado warning is implemented. This means there is “imminent danger to life and property,” according to the NWS website.
Warnings are issued by your local forecast office and typically covers a much smaller area (around the size of a city or small county) that may be impacted by a tornado.

Daylight saving time is this weekend!!!!
What is daylight saving time?
*The correct term is daylight "saving" (not savings) time, according to USA Today. However, the incorrect term “daylight savings time” is commonly used, especially in Australia, Canada and the United States. It's also supposed to be lowercase, not uppercase, according to the Associated Press stylebook.
Daylight saving time is the time between March and November when most Americans adjust their clocks by one hour.
We lose an hour in March to "spring forward" by adding more daylight in the evenings. And we gain an hour in November and "fall back" by adding more daylight in the mornings.
Why does daylight saving time matter?
Daylight saving time is when "daylight" begins an hour later in the morning and lasts an hour longer in the evening.
This allows the hour of daylight to stay coordinated with the time most people are active outside. Daylight saving time is supposed to save energy since during the warmer months majority will be outside and not home which saves energy.
Presidents' Day is a federal holiday celebrated on the
third Monday in February; Presidents' Day 2024 will
occur on February 19. Originally established in 1885 in
recognition of President George Washington, the
holiday became popularly known as Presidents' Day
after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday
Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day
weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states
still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of
Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures,
Presidents' Day is now popularly viewed as a day to
celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

The 2024 Spring Severe Weather Season is not far away, and the National Weather Service (NWS) and local public safety officials want you to be ready. The NWS Office in Fort Worth, in partnership with Denton County Office of Emergency Management, and Texas Woman’s University (TWU), will be conducting a free severe weather training class called SKYWARN for Denton County on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the MCL Auditorium at Texas Woman’s University.
This class is for anyone with an interest in severe weather, established storm spotters, and/or anyone who wants to learn more about the severe weather threats and preparedness tips in North and Central Texas. This class is part of the NWS Fort Worth Office’s annual severe weather preparedness campaign.
“By participating in this training session, you will gain a better understanding of Texas’ severe weather threats,” says Tom Bradshaw, Meteorologist-in-Charge of the NWS Fort Worth Office. “Waiting until storms are on your doorstep is not the time to start thinking about severe weather preparedness. We hope you attend these free classes to learn more about the severe storms that impact the region every year.”

Constable's Authority
The Office of Constable is mandated by Article 5, Section 18 of the
Texas Constitution, which states that in each Justice of the Peace precinct, a Constable shall be elected.
A Constable is a licensed, commissioned peace officer, elected by county constituents every four years for a particular area (Precinct) of that county.
Each Constable’s Office is a separate and unique law enforcement agency, independent of all other county departments, elected officials, and law enforcement agencies.
In accordance with the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Constables have the same duties and powers as any other peace officer, such as municipal police and Sheriffs, and may enforce all criminal laws, traffic laws, and conduct criminal investigations. In addition, by statute, Constables must serve all warrants, precepts, and civil process lawfully directed to them.
Therefore, the Constable is the chief process server for the Justice Court.
Constables are required by law to be present, or ensure one of their Deputy Constables are present, during hearings held by the Justice of the Peace.
To meet the challenges and demands of taking on the full responsibilities of being a peace officer as well as the added liabilities of processing civil cases, all Texas Constables and Deputy Constables MUST be licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, attend and complete a police academy, fulfill all ongoing continuing education requirements for peace officers, and
completed bi-annual training specific to civil process.
Constable's History
The Constable is the oldest law enforcement position in the world, first mentioned in France at the beginning of the 5th century, where it was known as the Count of the King's Stables. By the turn of the 6th century, the Constables were the Chief Household Officers and commanded the King’s
Armies in the King's absence. In the year 871 AD, King Alfred of England, declared the Constables to be the highest judge of military offenses and in matters of chivalry and honor. The Constable was also named by the King to be the supreme arbitrator in tilts, tournaments, and martial displays.
Becoming noted peacekeepers under King William "The Conqueror" in 1066, the Constable and their responsibilities were expanded with the adoption of
the Magna Carta, which became the pattern for most of the world's
constitutions and described Constables for the first time in written law.
In Texas on March 5, 1823 Constable Thomas Alley was appointed in Stephen F. Austin's original colony and sworn in by Judge John Tumlinson.
Later, another Constable was sworn in by Judge Tumlinson, thus making the two Constables the first law enforcement officers in Texas. The office of
Constable was later written into law in the Texas Constitution, stating the Constable would be elected by the people in each area, known as precincts.
How Big of a Problem Are Porch Pirates?
You may be thinking that it's good to know about this problem, but how likely will it really happen in your neighborhood? Sadly, some of the safest-looking neighborhoods are what attract porch pirates.
1. Install a security camera on your porch and around the exterior of your home. This will at least allow you to see what the person looks like and you can then give a description to the police. The best-case scenario would be if you were home at the time and could catch the thief in action because of the camera.
2. Have your packages delivered somewhere else if you know you won't be home. A friend, family member or neighbor may be home and able to grab the packages as soon as they are delivered. You may also be able to have packages delivered to your workplace instead. The key is to eliminate time setting out on your porch.
3. Enable tracking of the delivery. When you can track the delivery of your packages, you can better time when you need to be home or have someone stop over to get your packages when they arrive. Most of the time you can get a pretty good indication of the estimated time of delivery.
4. Purchase a delivery lockbox for outside your door. Depending on how often you get package deliveries, it could be well worth your money to purchase a delivery lockbox. A large box with a lock is one of the best deterrents to porch pirate theft.
5. Require a signature at delivery. Both UPS and FedEx have a signature required option that you can select for a small fee. The only drawback is if you aren't home when the package is attempted to be delivered, they will try a different day which means your package will be delayed.
6. Pick up your package from a delivery location instead.
Instead of having your package delivered to your home, choose a FedEx or UPS secure location instead. Once the package is delivered there, you can pick it up at your convenience knowing that it is safe inside.
