Grief is a universal human experience that touches us all at some point in our lives. It is an emotional journey that follows no set course, taking us through turbulent waves of sorrow, acceptance, and healing. It can be tempting to seek refuge in denial or avoidance, however, we must confront our grief head-on, for it is through this process that we find the strength to heal and grow.

Communication is key for any successful interaction, but when you throw dementia in the mix, things can get a little complicated. Never fear - we have some tips for you!
As caregivers, we simply need to adjust a few things on our end in an effort to respect the brain changes our loved ones are experiencing. Keep words simple and slow, don't shout at them (they are not hearing impaired, they are cognitively impaired - and if they ARE hearing impaired, their hearing aids should be on!), let them find their own words and resist the urge to finish their thoughts for them, and in general, just remember that they need a little extra time to process what you're saying. Be patient!
Try incorporating these tips and you'll be a dementia communication pro in no time!

Happy Doctors Day! We extend our deepest gratitude not only to all the wonderful doctors who care for our residents but also to the thousands of other doctors working hard each day to find the cause of and cure for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

Remember to always be respectful of those living with dementia. They've led rich lives full of experiences which have shaped them into who they are today; having a disease does not make them "less than" anyone else. They may feel lonely and isolated, so never speak about them as if they are not in the room with you. They can hear you. Being sensitive to their feelings is now more important than ever. Always show kindness and try to put yourself in their shoes.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia is one of the hardest jobs a person can take on, and often, you're doing it alone. Please know it's ok to feel sad, frustrated, and downright mad. While there is no happy ending with dementia, it is important to remember that it is still a journey of love. You are amazing! π You are doing a great job! π Keep going! π And never be afraid to ask for help - you are not alone β€οΈ
