Kudos to all the middle school fall athletes for topping recent Tah-Neva League Championships in fall sports. The Carson Middle School (CMS) eighth-grade girls basketball team went undefeated this season and won the league championship; the CMS sixth- and seventh-grade girls basketball team also earned second place overall; the Eagle Valley Middle School eighth-grade boys cross-country team took third place overall; and despite not having enough runners eligible to compete in the league championships, both CMS sixth- and seventh-grade boys and girls cross-country teams placed first in the open categories. What an experience for Carson High Students this week. Members of the Governor’s Technology Office provided personalized career preparation and skill development at an inaugural career exploration and preparation event. Kudos to all involved and who helped coordinate. The event connected students with state technology professionals for personalized career preparation, professional skill development and exploration of career opportunities in Information Technology. The goal was to make career preparation approachable and to help students, especially those nearing graduation, understand what skills employers look for and how they can position themselves confidently for their next steps. One hundred fifteen Carson High School seniors visited the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), for Nevada Bound, a full-day campus tour designed to introduce prospective students to the university’s academic programs, resources and campus life. The students, identified as Tier 1 through the transcript project agreement between the Carson City School District and UNR, began the day exploring informational tables focused on financial aid, housing and the university’s colleges. The visit is made possible through the Transcript Project partnership between the University of Nevada and Carson High School. This year, CHS saw Tier 1 students increase from 128 to 188. The goal is to support students throughout the college application process and encourage Nevada’s brightest graduates to pursue their education and careers in the Silver State.
