PSA:
From Tommy Malone regarding dangerous fire situations over the next few days!!!
Please DO NOT BURN ANYTHING OUTSIDE.
Ok, just met with officials from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, was informed that we are looking at a potentially extremely dangerous situation for fire weather for the weekend especially tomorrow and Saturday. The KDBI numbers for drought conditions are to be 900 which is as far as the measurements go, also humidity numbers will be in low teens, and winds gusting around 30 mph or so. We have submitted a burn ban request and should have the burn ban in place by later afternoon. They informed that according to their resources they would be prioritizing calls, if there are structures endangered they will be top priority. They did also ask if possible fire departments could let dispatch know appropriate acres involved, 1-5 acres they would probably send one crew, on more than 5 acres they would send no less than two units. They also advised , unless it is a small fire that can be put out safely not to try fighting a large fire and not take apparatuses off roads that they can't get away quickly as the larger fire will be moving faster that we can get away from if we get trapped in. Please advise all of your members that we need everyone to try to be available for calls this weekend that can, they advised they had never seen a more critical situation for our area for fire weather, everyone just be extremely careful.
