Turner Farms in Smith County will be having their annual cattle sale on Saturday, November 7th starting at 1pm here in Carthage. There will be an assortment of different breeds of cattle in this female sale. Last night we hosted our 2026 4-H Officer Training. 4-H’ers from all across Smith County joined us for a fun and educational night of learning about parliamentary procedure, getting to know each other, setting goals, and conducting mock club meetings. By serving as President, Vice President, Secretary, or Activity Leader of their classroom 4-H Club, students gain citizenship and leadership skills that they can use throughout their lives. Special thanks to members of our 4-H Green Team who assisted with set-up and registration! Best of luck to these officers as they lead their 4-H Clubs this school year! 🍀

We ended 4-H Spirit Day with even more green, as members of our Smith County 4-H Green Team showed up to pledge their hands to larger service at the Smith County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting! 🍀 4-H’ers greeted guests at the door, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, and helped serve the meal. We are so grateful to Smith County Farm Bureau TN Leadership for their continued support of everything we do in Smith County 4-H! It’s been a great Monday of National 4-H Week! 🍀

🍂🎃 FALL FUN IS COMING TO COMMUNITY CLUB! 🎃🍂

One of our favorite 4-H Community Club meetings of the year is almost here! Join us at Cantrell Farms in Granville on Thursday, October 22nd at 5:00 p.m. for a fun fall evening with our Smith County 4-H family!

We will enjoy hotdogs and s’mores, take a hayride, explore the corn maze, pick pumpkins, and spend plenty of time enjoying all that Cantrell Farms has to offer! 🍁

Smith County 4-H will cover admission for all Community Club members, and families are welcome to join us, too! Admission for parents, siblings, and other guests who would like to participate in the farm activities is $10 per person.

We will also be collecting non-perishable food items for a local food pantry as our October service project. We encourage each family to bring a few items if they are able! 🥫

Last Thursday was an EGG-cellent day at the 2026 Central Region 4-H Poultry Judging Contest! 🥚🐓🍗🍀 Ten Smith County 4-H’ers put their skills to the test and showed off their knowledge about many different aspects of the poultry industry.

Our Junior Team, made up of Gracie Driver, J Allen Kemp, Willow Lawrence, and Jett Regan, placed 6th out of 11 teams.

Our Junior High Team, made up of Aubrey Hicks, Scarlett Hicks, McCall Kemp, and Oakley Lawrence, placed 4th out of 11 teams. Oakley was the 10th high individual in the Junior High Division. Charlotte Driver also competed in this division.

Emmy Bibbings represented Smith County 4-H in the Senior High Division.

We also had three Smith County 4-H volunteers graciously sign up to be group leaders for the contest!

We are so proud of these 4-H’ers for a job well done! 🍀

COMING UP!!
Our Upper Cumberland Extension Team is hosting our Beef Summit this coming Tuesday, October 6th starting at 6pm! This event will be held at the White Co. Fairgrounds located at 565 Hale St in Sparta. There is no cost to attend and there is a free meal as well! Come out and enjoy a relevant topic in buying vs. retaining heifers presented by David Bilderback from UT’s Center for Farm Management.
