EMPOWERING EARLY DETECTION: MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EARNS ACR MAMMOGRAPHY ACCREDITATION

Memorial Hospital is proud to announce that its Diagnostic Imaging Department has been awarded a three-year accreditation in mammography by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This designation recognizes the department’s commitment to the highest standards of image quality, patient care, and safety.

The ACR accreditation is considered the gold standard in medical imaging. It is only granted to facilities that meet rigorous standards following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists. The assessment includes image quality, personnel qualifications, equipment performance, and quality control procedures.

β€œThis accreditation reflects the dedication and expertise of our imaging team,” said Jill Schlatter, Director of Diagnostic Imaging. β€œWe are deeply committed to providing patients with exceptional care and ensuring that our technology and practices meet the highest levels of excellence. Most importantly, we want our patients to feel confident and supported when they come in for their screenings.”

Promoting Early Detection During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Memorial Hospital encourages all eligible individuals to schedule their annual mammogram, as early detection remains one of the most effective ways to fight breast cancer. As part of this month’s awareness efforts, patients who receive their mammogram during October will receive a complimentary Breast Cancer Awareness Month–themed gift, symbolizing the community’s shared commitment to prevention and hope.

β€œEarly detection saves lives,” added Schlatter. β€œGetting screened is an act of self-care and empowerment. We invite our community to take that step for themselves and for the ones they love.” To schedule your appointment, please call 217-357-8660 or visit MHTLC.ORG to learn more.

Early detection saves lives. A monthly breast self exam can help you notice changes and start the conversation with your doctor. Here's how to do it:
1️⃣ In Front of a Mirror
πŸ‘‰ Look for changes in size, shape, or skin (dimpling, swelling, redness)
πŸ‘‰ Check ni***es for changes or discharge
πŸ‘‰ Place hands on hips and flex chest muscles - watch for differences between sides

2️⃣ In the Shower
πŸ‘‰ Use the pads of your 3 middle fingers to check your entire breast and armpit
πŸ‘‰ Apply light, medium, and firm pressure
πŸ‘‰ Feel for lumps, knots, or thickened areas

3️⃣ Lying Down
πŸ‘‰ Place a pillow under your shoulder and right arm behind your head
πŸ‘‰ Use the opposite hand to check your breast and armpit with light, medium, and firm pressure
πŸ‘‰ Don't forget to check both breasts

πŸ”” Remember: breasts are naturally asymmetrical, but if you notice a new lump, change, or anything unusual, contact your healthcare provider.
