National Weather Service has placed Leake County under a wind advisory until 7PM Saturday with northeast winds shifting to north at 20 to 45 MPH. Gusts to 50 MPH are possible. Gusty winds will blow unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong makes driving difficult. Please secure outdoor objects and stay at home unless absolutely necessary.

Melissa Comans, 53, was arrested for two counts of Petit Larceny. She is accused of using her elderly mother in law’s debit card for her own use. A Leake County deputy made the arrest Carthage PD today.

Things Didn’t Go As Planned

A call to a local grocery store Wednesday afternoon concluded with a Scott County man in jail. He was a vendor for the business but decided to sneak meat from the store. He is being charged with Shoplifting.

A Monday morning call, from a victim of identity theft, led to a search warrant being served on Tuesday morning at a Carthage home.

Multiple items of interest were seized during the warrant ex*****on including a large amount of cash. One person was arrested at the scene.

A second arrest in the same case came later Tuesday afternoon at a local business.

Two individuals are being charged with federal charges of Illegal Entry & ID Theft.

The investigation continues & other arrest are possible.

On Thursday, September 24 at 8:45 pm, Officer Tyler Massey made a traffic stop at the intersection of Red Dog Road & Highway 35 North. The stop resulted in the driver being charged with DUI 3rd (felony), Possession of Ma*****na while in possession of a fi***rm (felony), Driving While License Suspended, Improper Turn, and No Insurance.

An early Thursday morning traffic stop by Officer Tyler Kimble for driving without headlights quickly turned into much more for a local man. The traffic stop was conducted on Highway 35 North. The stop resulted in the subject being charged with driving without headlights, open container violation, and DUI 3rd offense.

Baptist Ambulance, Carthage Police Department, and Leake County deputies responded to a possible drug overdose Friday evening around 8:20 pm.

Once officers got on scene, they found a white, unresponsive male. Baptist Ambulance arrived and transported the subject to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Leake for treatment. The subject was treated and released.

The incident resulted in the subject being charged with Possession of M**h, Possession of Hydrocodone, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Possession of Xanax.

He is Leake County Jail pending bond.

ESCAPED MDOC Inmate is BACK IN CUSTODY!!!

Carthage Police Department got a call this morning about the escaped inmate from Madison County being seen in Carthage.

We have verified that he is custody. This call was a mistaken identity.
