Over the past several days, our community has experienced some heartbreaking losses of life.

There are no words that can make this easier, and there is no way to fully understand the pain that families are experiencing right now.

What we can do is come together.

Check on your neighbors. Reach out to someone who may be hurting. Give these families space, compassion and support as they try to navigate something no family should ever have to face.

We may come from different backgrounds, have different beliefs and cope with grief in different ways, but, we can all agree on one thing, these families should not have to face this alone.

Please keep these families, friends and everyone affected by these losses close in your thoughts and hearts.

We should be a community that comes together when our own is hurting. Now is one of those times.

A cellphone was found in the street near 7th St & Ward Ave. There is a very distinct sticker on the back of it.

25 YEARS LATER, WE REMEMBER. 🇺🇸

Twenty-five years ago today, our country was changed forever.

September 11, 2001, was a day that reminded all of us that evil is real, that life can change in an instant, and that there are men and women willing to run toward danger when everyone else is running away.

For the Caruthersville Police Department, September 11 carries a special meaning.

We remember the 343 firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers, 23 NYPD officers, and countless other first responders who answered the call that day. They went to work that morning simply doing their jobs, protecting people, helping others, and serving their communities. Many never came home, and those who did, were changed forever.

Their sacrifice is a reminder of what the badge represents.

It isn’t about the uniform.
It isn’t about the title.
It isn’t about recognition.

It’s about service, courage, sacrifice and protecting the people we are sworn to serve.

Our officers may serve in a small community, but the responsibility we carry is no smaller. Every day, our men and women put themselves between danger and the citizens of Caruthersville.

Twenty five years later, we still remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who showed the world what courage looks like.

We will never forget.

The Caruthersville Police Department is aware of the viral “Cat in the Hat” social media trend currently circulating online. Our SRO’s are aware and are working on the matter.

While many of the images and videos associated with this trend are digitally created, AI-generated, or intended as creepy jokes, we are seeing posts that go beyond simple memes and reference actual schools, businesses, churches, residences, and other locations or individuals.

⚠️ LET US BE CLEAR:

If you make a threat against a school, business, residence, church, public facility, individual, or any other location, we will take it seriously and investigate.

Depending on the circumstances, criminal charges may be filed regardless of whether you claim the post was intended as a joke, prank, or part of a social media trend.

IT IS NOT FUNNY. IT IS NOT A GAME.

Law enforcement agencies across the country are taking these types of posts seriously. What may seem like a harmless social media trend can quickly result in fear, panic, emergency responses, investigations, and criminal charges.

Before you post, share, repost, or create something involving a threat, THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES.

Welcome Back to School! 📚🍎

Today’s the beginning of another school year, and the Caruthersville Police Department wants to wish all of our students, teachers, staff, parents, and school administrators a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

As our children head back to school, we ask everyone in our community to slow down, pay attention, and help keep our kids safe.

🚸 Drivers:
• Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods.
• Watch carefully for children crossing the street.
• Stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing.
• Put your phone down and keep your attention on the road.
• Be patient around school drop-off and pick-up areas.

👮 To our students: Stay aware of your surroundings, use designated crossings, follow school rules, and never hesitate to tell a trusted adult if something doesn’t seem right.

Our officers will be out throughout the community and around our schools helping ensure a safe start to the school year.

Parents, teachers, students, and officers all have the same goal, getting our children to school safely and getting them home safely.

Let’s work together to make this a great school year for the children of Caruthersville!
