Nepal has been badly affected by the two major earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks. More than 8500 people died, 20,000 injured and 3 million displaced. Nepal Rural Health and Education Project is now providing relief directly in the most affected areas. NRHEP is currently working with a field team of several Nepali medics and health professionals providing assistance to Dolakha, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Ramechapp and Solukhumbu districts, some of the hardest hit rural areas of Nepal. They are providing medicine, basic medical care, food, and water purification tools to people with the greatest need, prioritizing malnourished,sick and injured children. An ex-police chief and ex-interior minister of Argentina have both been given life sentences for running a detention and torture centre in the 1970s. They were among 19 people charged with the kidnap, murder and torture of 128 prisoners in the city of La Plata. The detention centre also functioned as a maternity unit for pregnant prisoners who gave birth before being executed. Tens of thousands of Argentines were kidnapped or killed by the military junta between 1976 and 1983.
