As Dandelions start to flower, please remember they are a valuable early food source for honey bees and other pollinators.

Research challenges widespread belief that honeybees naturally insulate their colonies against cold
A Leeds researcher is keen to help beekeepers shape their practices following his study which appears to disprove the widespread belief that honeybees naturally insulate their colonies against the cold. His findings suggest that the creatures are potentially being subjected to thermally-induced stre...

Honey varies widely in colour, flavour, odour and consistency. It can range from almost white, through light and dark amber to almost black. The consistency can be runny, a gel, soft or hard set. The flowers that the bees collect nectar from determine the characteristics of the honey.
Most honey will granulate over time, It hasn't gone off, gentle warming will return it to an original state.

Non-beekeepers are sometimes surprised by the wide-range of local honey available. Local honey can vary in colour from almost white to dark amber. It can be runny, gel-like, soft set or granulated. Granulation is not a sign it has 'gone off' and gentle warming can quickly restore honey to liquid. Colour, flavour, odour and granulation all vary with the floral source of the nectar that the bees bring home. Honey can also come in the comb, in sections or with chunks in jars.
Enjoy the diversity.

New research finds surprising science behind bumble bee superfood
It's the spines. This is the conclusion of two new papers, led by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, showing that the spiny pollen from plants in the sunflower family (Asteraceae) both reduces infection of a common bee parasite by 81-94% and markedly increases the production of....
