Mental Health Awareness Month provides a chance to stand with your community and show that no one struggles alone. NAMI’s 2026 Mental Health Awareness Month theme of ‘Stigma grows in silence. Healing begins in community.’ invites everyone to join NAMI in speaking up against mental health stigma.
The NCCDA is proud to support our community by establishing our Mental Health & Wellbeing Team with inaugural member Madison Schwenneker. Madison is the Meeting Planner for our Mental Health and Wellbeing Program, helping coordinate and support the events that strengthen the well-being of prosecutors and staff across our state.
When we break our silence and speak our truths, we create space for healing — for ourselves and for others.

Do you know about the specialized Recovery Courts that exist throughout NC?
In 1996, North Carolina piloted five adult criminal drug treatment courts. By 2010, the number of operational drug treatment courts had grown to 45. It has expanded to include juvenile (delinquency) and family (parent respondents in abuse, neglect, and/or dependency cases) drug treatment courts.
Today, more than 80 recovery courts are operating across dozens of counties in North Carolina, providing critical treatment, accountability, and support services to individuals struggling with substance use and mental health disorders.
Join us this month as we dive into the courts that help break the cycle of crime and addiction, reunite families, and make our communities safer. For more information, visit the North Carolina Judicial Branch at:
