Turns out we have “Fat Bear Week” at home…🐻🤎

As Katmai Nat'l Park & Preserve is hosting their annual bracket-style bear competiton, our own park had a special visitor. This video was taken this week in our Ridgeview Campground.🏕️

Although this bear is brown, it is NOT a brown bear (Grizzly Bear). Our park is only home to Black Bears, but it is still important to remember this is bear country.

Parks provide critical, protected habitats. Fall is the time of year when bears enter hyperphagia, foraging for up to 20 hours a day to prepare for winter hibernation. Because they are constantly moving in search of food, bear sightings become much more frequent.

This makes it extra important for us to recreate responsibly so these habitats remain safe for them. When visiting, always secure your trash and keep a safe distance from ALL wildlife.🧺🐾🚮🌲

𝗨𝗣𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗦

The Boise National Forest expects to begin prescribed fire operations as early as next week, pending final approvals. Work will continue throughout the fall as conditions allow.

Prescribed fire is a key part of our active forest management. It helps reduce dense vegetation, improves forest health, and supports safer communities by lowering the risk of high‑severity wildfires.
