As we round out the month of August, I want to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation—and brag just a little—on the incredible members of this fire department.
As Fire Chief, I could not be more proud of the men and women who make up this department. Throughout this entire month, they have continued to answer the call through extreme heat, dry conditions, long days, and challenging fire conditions. They have taken time away from work, sacrificed evenings and weekends, and given up valuable time with their families—all to serve our community and protect the people they care about.
So far this month, our department has responded to 48 calls for service, with 33 of those being grass and wildland fires. Our members have also deployed twice with the Logan County Task Force to assist with incidents outside our immediate response area, while continuing to provide mutual aid and support to neighboring departments when called upon.
What makes all of this even more meaningful is that we are a 100% volunteer fire department. Every time that pager goes off, these men and women are making a choice to leave whatever they are doing and respond. They do it because they believe in their community, they believe in helping others, and they understand the responsibility that comes with wearing the uniform.
If you happen to see one of our firefighters out and about, please take a moment to thank them. A simple “thank you for what you do” may only take a few seconds, but I promise you—it goes a long way and means more to them than you may realize.
To every member of this department: Thank you. Thank you for answering the call, for standing beside one another, for putting in the work, and for continuing to represent this community with pride. I am incredibly proud to serve alongside each and every one of you.
And to our community, thank you for your continued support. Your encouragement, donations, understanding, and trust allow our volunteers to continue doing what they love—serving you.
As we head into the remainder of fire season, please stay safe, use extreme caution with anything that could cause a fire, and remember:
If you see smoke or a fire, don’t wait—dial 911.
