Wednesday nights are new member training nights at CFRD. Our newest class of probationary firefighters has hit the ground running! About twenty new members - most of them Maine Maritime Academy students - are working their way through our fall training program, and these photos show why we are proud of them.

In the first few weeks they have learned their turnout gear inside and out, searched for victims in a smoke-filled environment on SCBA, and forced doors and windows on the training trailer provided by the Maine Fire Service Institute. Every skill they learn is one more neighbor ready to answer the call here on the peninsula, where help has to come from us first.

This class is led by our own training cadre, members teaching members. New personnel learning new skills, and more experienced personnel honing their skills by teaching others.

Congratulations to David Nerden on earning his National Registry EMT certification! 🚑

That certification takes a lot of work. David put in hours of classroom time and then passed both the national written exam and the hands-on skills exam. He did it as a volunteer, on his own time, so that he can be better ready to help his neighbors on their worst day.

David joined Castine Fire Rescue Department in 2024, and he has been a steady presence on calls and at training ever since. We are proud to have him on the team.

Strong work, David!

Want to serve your community like David? Stop by the station at 13 Court Street or send us a message to learn about joining CFRD.
