Here are the main points on Amendment B that need to be made to correct what appear to be intentionally targeted misinformation campaigns:
1. The language is not "tax implications" or "tax related." It is very clear that it only applies to initiatives that raise taxes in specific ways.
2. The Legislature will have no ability to "interpret" whether an initiative is required to have a higher threshold. This determination will be made by the Executive Branch (elections office) and any disagreement will be interpreted by the Judicial Branch.
3. Many legislators agree that the Legislature should also have a hard time raising taxes. Bill file to explore how to implement rules that require a higher bar on us too. I think everyone can agree on that, right? so it should be fairly easy to pass.
4. It does not eliminate the citizens' right to initiatives or referenda. The only change is that if an initiative raises taxes, it will have a higher bar. That right is still preserved, and no other initiatives would be affected at all. Initiatives to lower taxes (which would be great to see!) would only need a 50% vote.

You are free to form your own opinion as to whether you want it to be harder for other people and organized groups to raise your taxes, but please make your decision based on the actual proposed language not what opponents are proposing. I believe there should be a higher threshold to raise taxes, it’s that simple. Do You?

I read it. Now share the part you left out: TAXES.

Amendment B’s 60% requirement applies to statewide citizen initiatives that impose, expand, or increase taxes—including a property-tax change that reduces the rate less than current law requires. Your post leaves out that central fact and turns a debate about tax increases into a sweeping claim about silencing voters.

If you believe 50% plus one should be enough to impose those taxes, defend that position. Explain why a narrow majority should be able to reach into everybody else’s pocket without broader public agreement.

And yes, Amendment B needs a simple majority to pass. Voters can use the existing constitutional process to establish a higher threshold for particular decisions. That is the people exercising their power.

Argue against the amendment’s actual wording. Don’t leave out the taxes and sell outrage over the omission.

As I’ve been attending Interim Session at the Capitol, I’ve been reminded how important this time is for understanding the issues facing District 67. Interim is when much of the work and preparation begins for the upcoming General Session, which starts January 19.

As I’ve promised throughout this campaign, I want to take the time now to hear directly from the people I hope to represent and learn what matters most in each of our communities, and I will continue to do so.
With that in mind, I’d like to invite you to join me for one of three Interim Session Conversation Nights throughout House District 67.

These evenings will be an opportunity to visit face-to-face, discuss the issues that matter most to our communities, and hear your thoughts, questions, and concerns as we prepare for the upcoming legislative session.

I believe good representation starts with listening, and I want to make sure the people of District 67 have an opportunity to be heard. Whether you have a specific concern, an idea, or a question about an issue, I’d love to have you join us.

Please share this with friends and neighbors who may be interested. I look forward to seeing you and having some good conversations about the future of our communities and our state.
