It’s Fire Prevention Week and we are focusing on lithium-ion batteries and turning charging into a superpower!! How you charge your devices and lithium-ion battery products could help prevent a fire! Never use damaged charging cords, use the cord that came with the device (they’ve been safety checked), charge on hard surfaces and keep cords free of clutter to prevent damage.

The CCFD6 fire brigade took over the Castle Rock Intermediate School this morning for an assembly to kick off Fire Prevention Week. The kids learned all about safe charging practices when using Lithium-ion battery products and of course cheered on a few firefighters in a gear competition!

District 6 responded to a possible structure fire early Thursday morning. Homeowners called 911 stating their house was full of smoke, unknown where it was coming from. Crews arrived on scene to no fire showing. Crews entered the home and found there had been an electrical fire involving several extension cords into a power strip that had caught fire and started to burn through the wood floor. Attached pictures show the damaged power strip. This is a reminder to not overload power strips, keep cords clear and in an open area to prevent damage, and have working smoke detectors in your home. This type of incident can escalate quickly and working smoke detectors will alert you well before the fire spreads. We are happy to report there were no injuries or structural damage to the home.

Fire Prevention Week is right around the corner!! Typically we would be working hard putting together our FPW Carnival but this year our apparatus bay and station will be under construction. Unfortunately, we won’t have enough safe space to organize our typical carnival. We still plan on visiting the elementary school and have a great assembly and class visits planned! Thank you to the VFW for the basket of goodies. Every year on 9/11 they deliver a basket to our crews to honor the sacrifices first responders make. 25 years later we have not forgotten and will continue to remember those lives lost on 9/11. ❤️
