Happy 50th StopWaste.Org!!!

Still glowing from last night! 🎉

We celebrated StopWaste’s 50th anniversary with our past and present board members, elected officials, colleagues, community members, and many of the partners who have helped shape this work over the decades.

For 50 years, partnership has been at the heart of what we do — from building recycling and composting systems to advancing food recovery, reuse, healthy soils, education programs, and more. Last night, we were especially proud to recognize eight longtime partners whose leadership and collaboration have helped move this work forward.

We’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far and excited for what we do together next!

Wet Weather is in the Forecast!

When you are driving and see CVSan staff working on local streets and around traffic. Please SLOW DOWN. Wet weather makes hazardous work on streets even more dangerous. Your cooperation helps keep the Maintenance Department safe and ensures that sewers in Castro Valley continue to flow.

Hazardous waste might be closer than you think.

When you hear “household hazardous waste,” you might picture chemicals or paint. But something much smaller may be sitting in your junk drawer right now: used batteries.

Batteries contain materials that require special handling and should never be tossed into your carts.

CVSan offers curbside recycling for many common household batteries for residents with blue recycling cart service.

It’s easy: Bag It. Top It. Recycle It.

Find out what’s accepted and how to participate at cvsan.org/battery.

Batteries may be small, but they contain materials that can harm people and the environment if they are not handled properly. That’s why batteries are considered household hazardous waste (HHW) and should never be placed in your garbage, recycling, or organics cart.

Can you imagine a day without water?

Imagine that when you flush the toilet, nothing happens. Water is the foundation of public health, economic development, and community well-being, and we all play an integral role in protecting water’s future.

On October 15, challenges us to rethink the role of water and wastewater in our personal lives and professional ecosystems. CVSan is proud to shine a light on why water is invaluable and why it urgently needs investment.
