Our 3rd & 4th graders have been busy learning how to outrun a Dino. You read that right 🫣 🦖🦕In this unit, students develop an understanding of how animals and their environments have changed through time. Fossils provide a window into the animals and habitats of the past. Analyzing the traits of animals that are alive today and comparing them to fossils, provides evidence of how these ancient organisms and environments of the past may have appeared.

In this lesson, students will learn about how fossil dinosaur tracks reveal how quickly a dinosaur was running. In the activity, Outrunning CeeLo, students figure out if they could have won a race with a dinosaur that was just their size. To determine the winner, students will compare the length of their running steps with the dinosaur’s steps. 🦕🏃‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️

🎃🐴 Pumpkins, pig races, & LOTS of fall fun for our youngest grades today! 🍂

Our TK–2nd grade Colts had the BEST day at Hunter Farm Pumpkin Patch! From hayrides, mazes, pig races, and jungle gyms to the giant bounce balloon, tractor rides, and SO many pumpkins, there was no shortage of smiles and fall adventures! 🚜🐷🎃 We love making these memories together!

🍂 Fall colors are beautiful…but have you ever wondered WHY? 🍁

Our middle school scientists got to the root of fall leaves! 🌳 They explored why deciduous trees shed their leaves and how special pigments create those gorgeous autumn colors. Then it was time to get hands-on with leaf chromatography to separate those hidden colors and an outdoor adventure collecting leaves for colorful crayon rubbings! 🍃🖍️🍂

🚌 Last month, Miss Edrozo’s 5th & 6th graders were challenged to create a mission statement for SFCS Transportation. Student leaders Addison, Dottie, and Elizabeth stepped up to guide the group, collaborating over several days to brainstorm ideas and choose their favorite!

🥁 And the winning motto is…”Every Foothill Student rides every Foothill mile with a smile. Happy when it’s hot, Happy when it’s cold, no matter where we go our bus will still be gold.”

We love seeing our students take initiative, work together, and bring a little school spirit to something we use every day! Great job, team!

🌱In garden class this week, fifth and sixth graders put the final touches on their artwork for compost porters and games. TK through first graders did some exploration and detective work to try and figure out who made holes in the garden beds and nibbled plants. There was an exciting visitor to the milkweed in the garden!

Our 3rd & 4th graders headed to the library today for a really fun field trip! Students got to hear a few books read aloud, played & molded with clay, & went on a scavenger hunt! We love our local library & the staff are so amazing! Thank you for being great hosts Mariposa County Library!
