In commemoration of America’s 250th Anniversary Lorenzo State Historic Site is sponsoring a free Speaker Series featuring highly regarded historians, archaeologists, and authors specializing in the Revolutionary War era. The goal of the series is to foster awareness and dialog around the people, places, and events that helped bring about a new nation 250 years ago and the continuing struggle to achieve the ideals of the American Revolution. This series is made possible by funding from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the partnership and support of the Friends of Lorenzo and Meier’s Creek Brewing Company.
The series will be hosted at Meier's Creek Cazenovia Farm Brewery on the first Thursday of the month from May through November. Doors open at 5PM, opening remarks begin at 5:20PM. The series will also be live-streamed from our page for those who are unable to make it in person.
Admission is free and open to the public for this event.
Please join us Thursday, October 1 2026 at 5PM as we welcome Wade Catts for his presentation "The Historic Battlefield Presented a Very Peaceful and Prosperous Appearance: The Role of Archaeology in Interpreting and Preserving Revolutionary War Battlefields". This illustrated lecture offers personal insights and experiences from a variety of Revolutionary War military sites. Using examples from battlefields throughout the Middle Atlantic and Northeast, Catts will look at what the field of archaeology brings to the investigation, interpretation, and preservation of these important places. He will discuss some of the new historical and archaeological research at these sites and how that research is informing our current understanding of 18th-century warfare. He will also reflect on the role of material culture and landscape in the public's renewed interest in our Revolutionary War past as we commemorate America's semi-quincentennial.
