Lameness is one of the most common and expensive health problems seen in horses.

Fortunately, modern technology allows veterinarians to look beneath the surface. Tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital radiography (X-rays), nuclear scintigraphy, ultrasound, and positron emission tomography (PET) give clearer, more detailed pictures of what’s happening inside the horse’s leg.

Learn how modern tools help veterinarians diagnose equine lameness more accurately. Explore AI, CT, MRI, X-rays, ultrasound, scintigraphy and PET scans.

Garlic starts in fall

It's time to plant garlic! Garlic thrives in full sun, fertile, well-drained soils, and loves a good dose of organic matter and fertilizer pre-planting.

Schedule your garlic planting between late September and November, planting cloves 2-3 inches deep and 3-4 inches apart.

Don't forget that nitrogen boost in May for an impressive yield!

Choose between the classic hardneck and softneck varieties.

Visit your local garden center or browse seed catalogs for the perfect fit. Let's get growing!

Hi livestock growers,

Whether you've got 3 ewes in the backyard or 300 on open range, Sheep IQ: Improving Production Efficiencies for Better Returns was built with you in mind.

This two-day workshop brings University Extension experts together to cover the real, hands-on questions every sheep owner runs into — and for just $75, it's one of the best values you'll find for the amount of practical knowledge you'll walk away with.

When: October 16–17, 2026
Where: Festival Hall Conference Center, 96 N Main Street, Cedar City, UT

Cost: $75 per person — and that includes lunch and dinner on the 16th, plus breakfast and lunch on the 17th.

You're basically getting two days of expert instruction and four meals for the price of a nice dinner out.

Here's why it's worth carving out the time, even for a small or hobby flock:

*Keep your animals healthier.
The animal health session covers deworming, scrapie and screwworm updates, genetic selection for ewe longevity, and lamb survivability — information that saves you money and heartache whether you have 2 sheep or 200.

*Feed smarter, not harder.
Learn feeding, nutrition, and supplementation strategies, plus ways to expand your grazing options — practical tips you can put to use the moment you get home.

*Get the bigger picture.
Sessions on consumer preferences, marketing, enterprise budgeting, and breeding stock selection will help you think more clearly about your flock's purpose and value, no matter the scale.

*See it in action.
A tour of a local operation gives you a firsthand look at these practices at work.

*Meet your people.
This is a great chance to connect with other sheep owners in the area — from backyard hobbyists to full-time producers — and build a network you can lean on year-round.

Seats are limited, so we encourage you to register soon:

Should you be testing your soil?

Your soil is the most important part of your garden. Soil tests are a fantastic way to get a basis of what to do with your soil.

Regular testing helps develop and maintain more productive soils for farming, gardening, and landscaping.

Soil tests indicate whether plant nutrients are deficient and, if so, what amounts are needed for optimum growth. If you have recently relocated or your plants are not performing well, get a soil test!

We have tests available in our office and will be happy to assist you with any questions and your testing results!

Your soil is the most important part of your garden. We provide resources and articles covering soil topics such as soil testing, composting, fertilizing, composting, common problems, and how to work with your soil.
