Did you know that you might be eligible for a mammogram at NO COST to you?

Care for Yourself is a program that provides no-cost mammograms, Pap tests, office visits, diagnostic testing, and if needed, referral for cancer treatment. Finances should not be a barrier for eligible Iowans who want healthcare.

Screening tests can save your life! When cancer is caught earlier, it is easier to treat. So get screened!

The MMR vaccine is very safe. Since 1963, millions of people have received it. If you have questions or concerns, talk to your doctor. They're there to help you decide what's best for you and your family.

Due to decreased vaccination rates, the U.S. is experiencing a resurgence of measles. Babies used to get their first MMR vaccine at 12 months old, but these days, that means 12 months without protection from a very real risk. The CDC recommends something called a “zero dose.” Babies can get an MMR vaccine as soon as they are 6 months old, getting them protected as soon as possible.

Have questions? Call your doctor and talk with them about what is right for your family. Linn County Public Health also offers the MMR vaccine.

It's not enough to be immune. You have to be able to prove it!

If you're exposed to measles, you need documentation of immunity. For most people, that documentation will be a record of their MMR vaccination. However, it could also be a blood test result.

If you're exposed to measles and you don't have proof of immunity, you'll have to quarantine for 21 days.

Don't miss out on life! Know where your records are!

NEW BLOG POST! Public Health Kaizen: The Art of Always Improving

This month, we’re focusing on a recent staff change here at Linn County Public Health (LCPH). Cassidy Flory was a Senior Health Education Specialist, but now is our Community Health and Performance Management Coordinator. This is a newish position—we revamped a role that had been empty for the past several years, combined it with a second, recently vacated position, and voilà! We now have a person dedicated to ensuring LCPH continually improves how it serves the community. Cassidy joins us for this month’s blog post to introduce herself and explain the work behind performance management.
