Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day! The day recognizes the Indigenous communities that have lived in the Americas for thousands of years. More than 100 cities have adopted the holiday, choosing to heed calls from Indigenous groups and other activists not to celebrate Columbus Day.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the histories, cultures, and perspectives of Indigenous peoples and their ancestors who lived on the land now known as North America. They existed in these areas for thousands of years before the first European explorers arrived. This day promotes awareness of Indigenous peoples’ struggles, resilience, and unique traditions, fostering understanding and unity among diverse cultures.

Visit the link below to learn more about the day and how you can celebrate.

In many parts of the United States, Indigenous Peoples’ Day occurs on the second Monday in October. What is Indigenous Peoples’ Day? Here what you should know about this holiday's history, and how to celebrate it.

🇺🇸One of the best ways we can serve people is simply making sure they know what resources are available to them.

This week, Latinos Unidos for Community Inclusion (LUCI) brought together leaders from Cedar Rapids and Marion, along with the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission, to meet with representatives from the Consulate of Mexico in Omaha. The Mexican consulate serves both Nebraska and Iowa. (Consulado Mexicano)🇲🇽

Whether someone is here temporarily or has made Cedar Rapids home for many years, knowing where to turn for information, assistance and support matters.

Thank you to LUCI for bringing us together and continuing to build those connections in our community.
