Leaves starting to fall on your grass?

Before you grab your rake and push all those leaves off your yard, consider how those leaves might help pollinators - and save you a bit of yard work.

Fallen leaves create mini shelters that pollinators rely on to survive Iowa winters. By raking leaves into unused areas of your yard, such as garden beds or under trees, you can minimize your yard work and create shelter for bees, butterflies, and more.

There are lots of benefits to wildlife and the soil when you , but you can support wildlife while maintaining a usable and beautiful yard.

How do you know when a tree needs to come down? How do you balance safety with preservation?

This week, Dr. Daniel Burgam from Colorado State University was visiting our woodlands to answer that question. Dr. Burcham visited to test a new method using sound waves that can help arborists and homeowners answer the all-important question: is it safe or not?
