Staying warm during this cold snap? If you're using a fireplace or wood-burning stove to stay warm, please remember that they can create fire hazards. Remember:

-Inspect your stove and chimney before using.

-Open the damper near the stove before starting a fire.

-Burn only dry, well-seasoned wood.

-Don't burn trash in a stove; doing so can start a chimney fire.

-NEVER douse gasoline, kerosene, or any flammable fluid on wood for a quick fire!

Stay warm AND safe as temperatures "fall" (pun intended) this week! Remember:

-Portable heaters need their space. Keep flammable items like blankets, rugs, or furniture at least three feet away from space heaters and wood stoves.

-Have a three-foot “kid-free zone” around open fires and space heaters.

-Make sure your space heater has a tip-over switch that automatically shuts off the heater's power if the heater orientation changes, including falling forward. A heater that does not have a tip-over switch is a fire hazard.

-Always turn portable heaters (such as space heaters or kerosene heaters) off when you go to bed or leave the room.

-Never use the kitchen oven range to heat your home. In addition to being a fire hazard, it can be a source of toxic fumes.

-Always use working smoke alarms in your home!

From October 15 through May 15, a burn permit from the Tennessee Division of Forestry (TDF) is required for debris pile fires and prescribed fires.

This evening, members of East 52 VFD and Timothy VFD took the time to refresh their skills in CPR and AED lifesaving techniques.

Maintaining these critical skills is an important part of being prepared to serve our community when every second counts. We are proud of the dedication our members show to continued training and learning.
