This week, three members of the Celina Fire Department Dive Team completed the ERDI (Emergency Response Diving International) course.

This specialized SCUBA training teaches divers how to safely and effectively conduct underwater searches in conditions with little to no visibility. Divers also received training in the recovery of evidence, vehicles, and victims.

We’re proud of our members for continuing to expand their skills and knowledge to better serve our community.

The Celina Fire Department, Chief Davis and Celina Fire Fighters #2603, would like to extend their gratitude to Danika and Michaelene for their generous donation of approximately 24 handmade bears and additional gifts. These thoughtful items will be utilized by our EMS crews to comfort young pediatric patients during times of distress. Notably, each bear requires 4-6 hours to build, demonstrating the ladies' dedication to this heartfelt endeavor.

While cleaning up from a training this afternoon crews were dispatched for a structure fire. Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 3:30 p.m. to 537 Touvelle Street, Lot 60, after neighbors reported smoke coming from the residence.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and high heat throughout the home. Because it was unknown whether anyone was inside, firefighters entered the residence, extinguished a fire that originated in the kitchen, and conducted a primary search.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Several pets were inside the home when the fire occurred. One dog, two cats, a guinea pig, and an estimated 10 to 12 birds died in the fire. Firefighters, with assistance from bystanders, were able to rescue two dogs from the residence.

The home sustained significant smoke and heat damage. The homeowner will be displaced for the time being, although the residence is not believed to be a total loss.

Eight firefighters responded to the scene and remained there until approximately 7 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Celina Fire Department has requested assistance from the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office, which is expected to investigate the fire in the coming days.
