A great event today. Two more military entities were awarded Gold member status: the Pueblo Chemical Depot and the US Air Force 21st Space Wing (located on Peterson AFB). Congratulations to them both!
That brings the number to 4 military installations in Colorado in the Environmental Leadership Program. The other two are the CO Army National Guard (5 year Gold member) and the US Air Force Academy (4 year Gold member).
Beyond regulation, giving inspiration | Department of Public Health and Environment The Colorado Environmental Leadership Program has a fresh, new look, symbolizing its efforts to bring all kinds of business owners into the fold and creatively showcase their successes.
As you celebrate the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence this weekend take time to remember the valor of the patriots from the Thirteen Colonies who declared independence and gave birth to this great nation we live in. Men and women of our military continue to stand ready and proudly defend our freedom here and for others throughout the world. Reflect on the blessings that freedom represents in your life and for the opportunities it affords.

Please use these 101 critical days to recycle items from picnics, barbeques, camping etc. to keep our state looking good. If you "pack it in, pack it out".

Congratulations to Ed Oppermann and Gene Taillacq who are the Environmental Protection Officers for the COARNG Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site (MATES) located on Fort Carson. They were recognized by Fort Carson's Department of Public Works on 18 April 2013 for their outstanding management of the environmental activities at the MATES. Under their guidance, the MATES facility maintains strict compliance with applicable environmental regulations and routinely receives exceptional rating during scheduled and unscheduled environmental audits. Ed and Gene also provide a valuable service to the installation. Utilizing a commercial fuel filtration system, they process soil and water contaminated JP8 from other organizations and re-use it thereby eliminating what could have been a major waste stream with cost associated with analysis, disposal and fuel replacement. The efforts of Ed and Gene have proved invaluable with regard to the compliance posture of the MATES, and their overall contributions to the Installation's environmental and sustainability initiatives. Both men received the Fort Carson "Mountain Mover" certificate and a coin from the Garrison Commander for their outstanding efforts.
