At 2:19 pm on Monday, October 20, 2026, Moultonborough was dispatched for a reported building fire on Hanson Drive bringing automatic aid from Center Harbor and Sandwich. The first arriving chief officer found fire showing from the roof. Center Harbor 5E3 was the first arriving suppression piece followed shortly by Moultonborough 15E3 and an aggressive fire attack was initiated by crews from both towns. The incident eventually went to a second alarm. Please see Moultonborough Fire Rescue for more information as it becomes available.

This incident proves the value of our commitment to providing the highest level of service to our Town and the surrounding communities through station staffing and automatic mutual aid agreements. These factors were instrumental in rapidly getting the right resources to this fire and limiting the severity of the situation. Our duty crew responded immediately and was supplemented by 7 additional Center Harbor call firefighters who came from home or their workplaces to help our neighbors, bringing a total of 3 pieces of apparatus to this scene. We will continue to work both within our department and with our incredibly valuable mutual aid partners to always be ready for the next emergency in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Special thanks to West Ossipee Fire Department for covering our station and helping our crews get back in service this afternoon!

Deceased hiker, Old Bridle Path, West Rattlesnake Mountain, Holderness

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:22 a.m., Holderness Fire-Rescue, Center Harbor Fire-Rescue, Sandwich Fire-Rescue, Plymouth Ambulance and New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to West Rattlesnake Mountain in Holderness for a hiker who was found unconscious along the trail.

First responders located Richard Chateauneuf (64) of Tyngsboro, MA approximately ¾ of a mile from the trailhead being administered CPR by other hikers. Despite valiant efforts by the good citizens and first responders, Chateauneuf was unable to be revived. He was subsequently carried to the trailhead.

Just after 5 pm this evening, CHFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Whittier Hwy. Initial reports were a head-on collision with persons trapped. Moultonborough was requested for their heavy rescue as the closest rescue out of Meredith was on another call. Upon arrival, crews found a single occupant trapped in a vehicle about 20 feet into the woods. A second vehicle had fortunately suffered only minor damage to the passenger side mirror. The patient was able to self-extricate through the moon roof and Moultonborough was placed in service. One patient was transported to Concord Hospital - Laconia for treatment by Stewart's Ambulance Service. Initial investigation indicates that the patient may have had a medical emergency causing the collision, but injuries were minor. Center Harbor Police will be continuing to investigate. Special thanks to multiple surrounding law enforcement agencies and our mutual aid partners for their assistance with this incident.

Last night's quad town training was a much more regional affair hosted by Tuftonboro Fire. Center Harbor joined crews from Meredith, Moultonborough, Sandwich, Effingham, and Alton for a tanker shuttle and water supply drill. Personnel drilled on various techniques including using a fire boat as water supply and portable tank operations. Flows of at least 500 gpm were maintained for approximately 2 hours with 750 gpm being the typical flow. Crews moved just over 60,000 gallons of water during the iteration. This is a critical skill in our area where very few areas are covered by pressurized hydrants.
