Breast Cancer Awareness Doesn't End With October!

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, it's an important reminder that taking care of our health matters year-round.

Breast cancer screening can help detect cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment may be more effective.

Knowing your family health history, recognizing changes in your body, and talking with a healthcare professional about when to begin screening are important steps.

Let's continue encouraging conversations about cancer prevention, early detection, and access to care in our Native communities.

💜 Everyone Deserves to Feel Safe.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, an opportunity to recognize the importance of safety, healthy relationships, and support for survivors.

Domestic violence can affect individuals and families in every community, including our Native communities.

Abuse isn't always physical. It can also involve emotional manipulation, threats, intimidation, financial control, or isolation.

If you or someone you know needs support, confidential assistance is available through the StrongHearts Native Helpline, a culturally grounded resource for Native Americans affected by domestic and sexual violence.

🚭 Commercial To***co and Your Body's Ability to Heal

Smoking commercial to***co affects more than your lungs.

It can reduce oxygen delivery to tissues, affect immune function, and slow the body's ability to heal after an injury or surgery.

Quitting smoking can help improve circulation and support recovery.

💙 Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes: What's the Difference?

Both conditions affect how the body manages blood sugar, but they have different causes.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition in which the body produces little or no insulin.

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body doesn't use insulin effectively, and over time, the pancreas may not produce enough insulin to meet the body's needs.

Understanding these differences can help reduce misconceptions and encourage better diabetes awareness.

💙 Movement Matters for Diabetes Prevention!

Physical activity can help your body use insulin more effectively and support healthy blood sugar levels.

You don't need an intense workout to get started. Walking, dancing, gardening, or simply finding more ways to move throughout the day can make a difference.

Building healthy habits starts with finding activities you enjoy and making them part of your routine!

🚭 Ni****ne Pouches Are Not Harmless!

Ni****ne pouches may be smoke-free, but they still contain highly addictive ni****ne.

For young people, ni****ne exposure can affect the developing brain and increase the risk of addiction.

Parents and caregivers should also know that ni****ne pouches can pose a poisoning risk to younger children if accidentally swallowed.

Having conversations about ni****ne products and keeping them away from children can help protect our families.

Ni****ne pouches can be dangerous to children if they use, touch, chew on, or eat them. They can cause ni****ne poisoning. Keep these products away from kids.
