This Saturday, October 10th at the Grow Together Garden Club, we have a special session planned. Did you know that Ohio has a native, edible fruit tree? The pawpaw! The fruit tastes like mix of banana and mango with a custardy texture.

At this session of Grow Together Garden Club, we will be starting our own pawpaw seedlings! Special guests from Girl Scout Troop 3163 will also be teaching about butterfly camouflage with an activity and art project!

Don't miss out! Register at cwpd.org. Registration deadline is Thursday, October 8th.

This time, the treats come from the driver's seat. 🚒

Truck or Treat takes over Oak Grove Park on Saturday, October 17, from 10AM to 12PM. All ages can hop into big trucks and tractors, honk the horns, shift the gears, and leave with a bag of goodies. Costumes welcome.

Kona Ice and the Travelin' Toms truck will sell refreshments if the weather holds, and the first 30 minutes run quieter for anyone who needs a calmer start. Registering is optional, but it gets you an email if bad weather cancels the fun.

Got a unique vehicle? Email Katie Thorpe at [email protected] about parking it and handing out treats. All vehicle requests must be approved in advance.

Send this to the friend who will want to honk every horn.

One more thing: our newsletter at daytondailydose.com keeps more Dayton fun rolling your way.

What is happening here? Staff is treating tree-of-heaven at Bill Yeck Park. And no, it’s not because we’re giving these trees a little TLC!

Tree-of-heaven is a highly destructive invasive species. It aggressively displaces native plants, can damage infrastructure, and contributes to the spread of agricultural pests.

It’s also the primary and preferred host plant for the spotted lanternfly, an invasive pest that can cause serious damage to plants and crops.

In a word: yuck!

The invasive species fight continues at Bill Yeck Park. Our staff and volunteers are working hard to protect native plants!

Tomorrow is National Public Lands Day, the largest single-day volunteer event for America's public lands. It's a great reminder of what's possible when communities rally around the places they love!

That spirit of volunteer stewardship was on display today at Bill Yeck Park, where Houck Menninger Law, LLC began work on the section they’ve adopted through our new Adopt-a-Habitat program!

They shared, "Our clients think about their kids and grandkids all the time. Those kids and grandkids are going to grow up in this community, enjoy these parks, walk these trails. What we leave behind matters."

We couldn't agree more! 💚

Twelve locations throughout Bill Yeck Park are maintained by community groups, families and individuals through Adopt-a-Habitat. Volunteers visit their adopted area at least four times a year to remove invasive plants, conduct an annual survey and help the Park District document changes over time.

And we’re excited to share that all 12 habitats have already been adopted!

If you see a group working in the park, please take a moment to thank them for their efforts.
