These three are going to Cornell Wildlife Hospital tomorrow. All three were hit by cars. The barred owl came from Boonville, Then we get a call from a State Trooper who was with one of the redtails at the Verona exit of the Thruway. So we went and got that one. Got home and got a call from a Clinton Police Officer who was with a hit by car redtail in Clinton. So we went and picked that one up. It was a very busy day.

If anyone has old yoga mats they want to replace, we can use your old ones. They make really good mats for our carriers used for transport.

Part 2 of eagle rescue. This had to be one of the meanest eagles we have ever dealt with. The bird was sent to Cornell Wildlife Hospital the next day. Test results are not in yet.

This is an eagle rescue we did in Blossvale on Oneida Lake. The bird was pulled out of the lake three times before we arrived, which is the reason why the bird was so heavy. The eagle was having seizures.

Everyone uses the “R” word way too much when it comes to wildlife acting odd. There are more issues than rabies. This is a classic example of being scared to death that raccoon is rabid. Well it’s not. We picked it up in Whitesboro. It was trying to walk but kept falling over. I knew before I left my house I was going to see a raccoon with canine distemper. Distemper is a virus that they don’t live through. This was #6 in the last month that we picked up. The raccoon began having seizures and that sealed it. A distemper raccoon is not aggressive, walks slowly often in circles, and falls over. Some of them have very green eyes. As you can see in the picture the raccoon also has very crusty eyes, which often goes along with distemper. He was euthanized.@
