SBSO DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY SET FOR OCT. 24

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to clear out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of any unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications on Saturday, Oct. 24, as the Sheriff’s Office joins the annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SBSO Narcotics Unit agents from the Special Investigations Division will be on hand at Walgreens, 100 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, at the corner of Paris Road, to collect unwanted medications.

Since its launch in 2010, the DEA-led initiative has successfully collected over 4.8 million pounds of prescription drugs nationwide.

If you’re unable to attend on Oct. 24, the Sheriff’s Office also offers a year-round medication drop box at the substation located at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette.

SBSO MONITORING CONDITIONS IN EASTERN ST. BERNARD

Winds associated with Hurricane Isaias have pushed some water onto roadways at the eastern end of St. Bernard Parish, including Shell Beach, Hopedale, Delacroix and along Florissant Highway, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office is closely monitoring conditions, with deputies on the ground in the area and ready to respond as needed.

Deputies are providing traffic control and patrolling areas inside levee protection where RVs are parked.

Please do not drive on roads covered in water. Keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles and follow directions from deputies.

SBSO PARTICIPATES IN NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME

More than two dozen parties were held Tuesday, Oct. 6 across St. Bernard Parish to celebrate National Night Out Against Crime.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the second suspect in the Aug. 10, 2026 attempted armed robbery in Arabi and are actively seeking his whereabouts, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau have issued an arrest warrant for Dallas Gardener, 18, of the 1600 block of Lamanche Street in New Orleans, for attempted armed robbery.

Vito Odom, 20, of the 1300 block of Charbonnet Street in New Orleans, also was arrested in the case on Tuesday, Sept. 29, with assistance from the New Orleans Police Department.

☎️Anyone with information about Gardener’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501 or the CIB tip hotline at (504) 271-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash award through Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans.

Shortly after midnight on Aug. 10, SBSO deputies responded to a business in the 6700 block of St. Claude Avenue after receiving a report of an injured man seeking help.

Investigators learned the man had been walking in the 900 block of Mehle Street when two masked individuals approached him and demanded his cellphone and wallet.

When the victim refused, a struggle ensued, and he sustained injuries. The suspects fled on foot without taking any of his belongings.

The victim made his way to a nearby business, where an employee contacted the Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
