Asking for help can already feel difficult. 💬 Having to explain what you need in a language you’re less comfortable speaking can make it even harder.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re highlighting the importance of making support accessible to every neighbor who comes through our doors. 🚪 At SVdP, Spanish-speaking team members like Paige Cruz help remove language barriers so neighbors can explain what they’re going through, ask questions and understand the resources available to them, whether they’re visiting our food pantry, applying for benefits or looking for other support.
For Paige, making sure every neighbor feels heard is personal. Her sister experienced homelessness and struggled with addiction before passing away, and sees her sister in the neighbors she serves each day at SVdP. ❤️ She hopes someone was there to offer her sister the same care she now has the opportunity to give others.
Language should never be the reason someone misses out on help. We’re so grateful for Paige and our bilingual team members who make it easier for more neighbors to share their needs, feel understood and connect with the support they came looking for.
