Proud to see over $400,000 coming to the University of Illinois to expand job training, career pathways and support services for East Central Illinoisans looking to enter in-demand careers. Our region has been seeing steady growth in a range of career paths, like health care, education, advanced manufacturing and agricultural technology. This funding will ensure local residents have access to high-quality job training that will directly connect workers to careers in these sought-after fields.

Today I had the honor of joining other elected officials, education professionals, first responders and community members at Gies Memorial Stadium on the U of I campus to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The day began with a ceremonial stair climb by local participants in honor of the brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

In honor of the nearly 3,000 lives taken and the thousands more forever impacted by these tragic attacks, I encourage our community to remember our nation’s loss and reflect on our nation’s goodwill in the days, weeks and months that followed.
