Information regarding Wellston Firefighter Joe Flake’s service.

Thank you again for all the support shown for Firefighter Flake’s family and friends, Wellston Fire Department, and all responders.

ATTENTION: OKLAHOMA FIRE DEPARTMENTS, EMS SERVICES, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

If you are planning to attend the funeral of Wellston Firefighter Joe Flake on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m., apparatus parking will be available at the elementary school.

On the attached map, the apparatus parking area is marked in blue, and the church is identified by the red box. After parking their vehicles, first responders may walk from the designated parking area to the church.

Due to the very limited space inside the church, first responders are asked to gather outside the church during the service. Following the service, all first responders will line the street to honor Joe and his family as the procession departs for the cemetery.

Because the cemetery is very small, it would be logistically impossible for everyone and all emergency apparatus to proceed there.

We sincerely appreciate everyone’s cooperation, support, and presence as we come together to honor our brother firefighter, Joe Flake.

Today responders from across the county had another extremely busy day. This morning , multiple agencies responded back to yesterday’s fire, including a bulldozer from Lincoln County District 3, to strengthen the perimeter. While still on scene, they were dispatched to an additional fire call.

Upon arrival, first arriving units requested additional resources due to the rapid fire progression. A total of 15 fire departments from Lincoln County and neighboring counties provided resources. U.S. Forestry Service had been staged in Stillwater on Monday following the conditions being experienced throughout the state. Upon notification of the fire, they deployed to the scene ultimately requested an air asset out of Mcalester and blades (bulldozers) from Oklahoma Forestry Service.

Multiple containment lines were cut using hand tools, as well as equipment including equipment from Lincoln County District 2. Resources will return in the morning to strengthen containment prior to increasing fire conditions once again tomorrow.

We’d like to give a huge thank you to all of the agencies that assisted including US Forestry Service, Oklahoma Forestry Service, Lincoln County District 2, Lincoln County District 3, Lincoln County Fire Departments, Ripley Fire Department, Perkins Fire Department, and Luther Fire Department.

Please continue to remember the family of fallen Wellston Firefighter Joe Flake, as well as friends and fellow responders.

This afternoon our office was requested to assist with a large fast moving grassfire. Upon arrival, the fire was rapidly spreading to the north. Multiple additional agencies were requested.

During the fire, we experienced an incident within an incident with a mayday call broadcasted. A firefighter on scene experienced a medical emergency and was transported to hospital for further treatment. The firefighter was reported in critical condition.

At this time, the fire is estimated at 260+ acres with multiple crews still on scene.

Please remember the firefighter, the family, the fire departments and assisting agencies in your thoughts and prayers tonight.
