Join the Library for a special exhibition viewing and talk commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

Kathleen DuVal, Carl W. Ernst Distinguished Professor of History and recipient of a 2025 Pulitzer Prize for "Native Nations: A Millennium in North America," will share insights into North Carolina's role in revolution. The evening also includes a book signing and a viewing of the Wilson Library exhibition "Witnesses to the Revolution: North Carolina and the War for Independence,” produced in partnership with the North Carolina Museum of History.

The celebration takes place on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to all – hope to see you there!

Longtime head of University Archives Nicholas Graham has a new addition to his title. He is now University Historian and Head of University Archives and Records Management.

This new title formalizes the work Graham does to help the entire Carolina community engage with the University's history.

It's Banned Books Week and Wednesday is First Amendment Day, so the Library and School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) are teaming up to host a Banned Books Reading to celebrate essential First Amendment rights through the power of literature.

From 10 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 7, we'll be outside Manning Hall with:
- Live readings from banned and challenged books by Carolina community members
- Interactive button-making station celebrating literary freedom
- Special collection of banned books available for checkout
- Discussions about the impact of censorship on democracy

We're sad to hear about the passing of the great Dolly Parton. Along with being a singer, actress, and style icon, she was also a steadfast supporter of childhood literacy through her organization Imagination Library. We're happy to have promotional photos and a copy of her first single, Puppy Love, in the Southern Folklife Collection in Wilson Library.

Calling everyone who loves Carolina! Start the school year off with a bang by attending our first Carolina History Tour of the semester on Friday, 8/21!

Led by University Archivist Nick Graham, attendees of this walking tour will learn how the University was founded, the story behind campus landmarks, and more! This event is free, open to all, and counts as a CLE. Advanced registration is required.
