The research of four UNC faculty members will more easily reach worldwide audiences with our new open access grants.
The grant program is a new partnership between the Library and the Institute for the Arts and Humanities. Beginning in 2026, the Library began to supplement IAH’s Arts and Humanities Publication Support Grants with awards up to $5,000 each for authors who wish to make their publication openly accessible. The winning bookmarks from our student bookmark contest are now available in libraries across campus!
Library Ambassadors and the Student Library Advisory Board, as well as the staff who work with them, selected four winners from dozens of entries. First place went to “Annuli,” designed by Ellen Han ’26.

We want to extend a huge congratulations to library worker Katie O'Neil, who graduated from Carolina earlier this month. Katie is the administrative assistant for the Southern Historical Collection and has been working at Wilson Library since 2022. After almost 20 years, with the help of the University’s tuition waiver program, Katie was able to finish the degree in Biology that she started in 2004. Congratulations, Katie!

The University Library is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristen Merryman as Head of the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center!
As head of the NCDHC, Kristen will lead the Center’s work with cultural heritage organizations across the state to digitize historical materials and make them available online. She will also guide the Center’s strategy and work to expand relationships with stakeholders and prospective partners.
