[UPDATE] The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Axel Zizumbo. He is facing charges of concealed carry of a weapon violation, discharging fi***rm in town limits, and armed to the terror of the public.

Officers have arrested a man who fired a gun in the 100 block of W. Franklin Street around 7pm. There are no reports of injuries and no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be provided as available.

The uniform may have changed from Crash Assistance Responder (CARS) to Patrol Officer, but just ask officers Gh'rael, Newsome, and Fowler and they'll tell you the CARS position is a great opportunity to gain valuable training, skills, and experience that'll benefit you in your future career.

It is National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week and we held Coffee With A Co-Responder at Chick-fil-A Carraway Village about the critical work our team does to meet the rising demand for mental health and substance use services.

Our Crisis Unit was established in 1973 and is one of the earliest examples of how law enforcement and human services professionals work together to provide the right intervention at the right time to avoid arrests, emergency room visits, and repeat 911 calls by connecting people to appropriate resources.

Recently Officers Krapil, Bond, Rudd, and Badstein attended the 70th anniversary conference, Currents of Change.

They gained valuable training, continuing education credits towards intermediate and advanced law enforcement certificates, and networked with other officers across the state. Our Chief Lehew was a featured panel speaker.

Women make up 19% of our sworn officers from leadership to patrol; and 33%-50% of our last four recruitment classes. Nationally women make up less than 14% of sworn officers and only 20% of recruits.

We are hosting a blood drive today that is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC from 9 am to 1 pm. Walk-ins are welcome.

Those who donate can get:

$80 + $30 e-gift cards for O positive and negative blood types
$30 e-gift card bonus for all other blood types.

Each pint of blood donated can help up to three people who need blood products.
