Shoutout to a former Tar Heel BC and recent graduate of IBOLC, 2LT Can Tunceli!

2LT Tunceli is a 2024 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and YG24 commissioned officer of the Tar Heel Battalion. Upon completion of his time in IBOLC (Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course), he was awarded the Hal and Julia Moore Character Award and an Army Achievement Medal for not only his character and leadership abilities, but also his selfless service and dedication to duty.

Congrats, Sir! Keep making Ram Co. proud!

It’s not just all business here at the Tar Heel Battalion. Sure, we like to work hard. But we also like to play harder!

Here are a few highlights from the last couple weeks of cadets doing some extra curricular activities that, we must say, look like a bunch of fun 🙌.

Special shoutouts to all the cadets who completed the the Army 10-Miler in DC and to CDT Rapp (vids) who competed in the USA Power Lifting Raleighwood Rumble (squat: 540; bench 352; deadlift 551 😤💪)

When the state needed it most, one of our own proudly answered the call for help. For the last few weeks, CDT Bowling has been supporting recovery operations in western NC following the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Helene. CDT Bowling and his fellow “Hill Hogs” All Hazards Response Team are shown here doing what they can to provide help and hope to a community in need.

“Chancellor’s In the House!”

Yesterday, the UNC Naval Armory had the honor of hosting another distinguished VIP: Chancellor Lee Roberts.

A longtime advocate for higher education and a deeply dedicated public servant to North Carolina, Chancellor Roberts engaged with cadets from all three ROTC branches (Army, Air Force, and Navy), sharing his vision for the future of UNC-Chapel Hill. When cadets asked questions about student diversity, social inclusiveness, and the university’s direction, Chancellor Roberts provided thorough and sincere responses. Chancellor Roberts also shared key aspects about leadership that he learned throughout his career, including his emphasis on knowing and understanding the people that you serve.

🚨CADET OF THE MONTH🚨

We’re continuing our monthly trend of identifying a high performing individual within the Tar Heel Battalion! The Cadet of the Month for the month of September:

Hailing from Vass, NC, Cadet Jackson Carmichael is an MSII, majoring in Human and Organizational Leadership Development. When he’s not kicking butt while training in the forests of NC, you can probably find him on Franklin, chowing down on some Raising Canes or playing soccer with his friends on one of the local fields. In his spare time, he likes to cook or go for a run. We truly appreciate people like CDT Carmichael, who’s always setting the example, coming to formations with a positive attitude, and cheering people up with a simple “Hey how’s it going?!”

Last week, the UNC Army ROTC Battalion had the honor of hosting the 11th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. We were blessed to have hundreds of people from multiple organizations across North Carolina come out early on that Wednesday morning to pay tribute to those lives that were lost during the terrorist attacks 23 years ago.

Not only was that a day that will go down in infamy as one of the most tragic events in US history, but it was also a day that America came together as one; unified in patriotism that knew no bounds.

We remember those who fought to stop the terrorists on that fateful day. We remember those who fought to save lives from the rubble in New York and Washington DC. We remember those who would deploy in the ensuing War on Terror and gave their lives defending our freedoms. We remember and honor the families of those who have fallen.

We Remember.
