This past week, White Cross Fire Department ran a Passenger Vehicle Rescue class, which focuses on the management of high-impact vehicle accidents. Firefighters came from a variety of local agencies to improve their skills.

This week students worked on size ups, hazard recognition, stabilization of compromised vehicles, patients extrication, and patient care for possible injuries sustained in a wreck.

With this class under their belts, local firefighters will be able to better respond to all types of vehicle accidents, on any kind of roadway.

Thank you to all organizations who assisted in making this class possible.

In last night’s training our volunteers learned about operating in zero visibility on air, working through hands on scenarios by feel, not sight. Strong work all around and skills that matter when it counts.

Today we were reminded that service calls don’t always look the same. Grateful our part time staff could help this little cat get to safety. 🐾

Tonight, our volunteers completed Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) training, focusing on roadway safety and why we position our apparatus the way we do on scenes.

Out on roads like Old Greensboro Rd and NC 54, one distracted driver can change everything in seconds. That’s why you’ll see us blocking lanes, using our trucks as barriers, and creating space. It’s all about protecting our crews, patients, and everyone else on the roadway.

We don’t block the road to inconvenience you we do it so everyone goes home safe.

🚨 A few ways you can help us stay safe:
• Slow down when approaching emergency scenes
• Move over to the next lane if possible
• Stay alert put the phone down
• Follow directions from emergency personnel
• Give responders room to work

We appreciate the support from our community. Staying safe out there is a team effort.

Friendly daylight saving time reminder!

As you change your clocks today, be sure to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Make sure all batteries are functional and replace as needed. Also ensure that all detectors are within 10 years of their manufacture date-printed on the back of the detector.

Thank you!

White Cross/Orange Grove area. All the diverse weather conditions have not passed us yet, and road conditions remain hazardous. We strongly advise staying indoors unless absolutely necessary. Please prioritize your safety and warmth.
