Memorial Day Schedule - May 25, 2026:

No recycling collection. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day this week.

The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Offices will be closed.

Happy Compost Awareness Week!

Celebrate by dropping off your food waste at one of the Orange County's 11 Food Waste Drop-Off sites!

Orange County Solid Waste is excited to offer six additional food waste drop-off bins for residents to keep their food waste from going to landfill. These bins can be accessed 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Residents must download the BigBelly Smart Compost application on a mobile device to unlock these bins and deposit their food scraps. The app will show the locations of the six 24-hour food waste bins and their fullness. It also shows what items are accepted for composting at these sites.

Reminder: Orange County Shred-A-Thon events begin THIS WEEKEND!

Bring your confidential documents for FREE, safe shredding and recycling. This service is available to Orange County residents (including Chapel Hill residents in Durham County), small businesses in Orange County, and Orange County government employees, including employees of towns within Orange County.

Chapel Hill
Saturday, April 18 from 10 am to 2 pm (or until capacity is met) at the Eubanks Park and Ride Lot (1768 Eubanks Rd, Chapel Hill 27516)

Hillsborough
Wednesday, April 29 from 10 am to 2 pm (or until capacity is met) at the Walnut Grove Church Rd. Waste & Recycling Center (3605 Walnut Grove Church Rd, Hillsborough, NC 27278)

Thursday, April 9: Eubanks and Walnut Grove Waste & Recycling Centers (WRCs) and the Orange County Landfill will have a 1-HOUR DELAYED OPENING for a department-wide training.

Facility Hours for Thursday, April 9
Orange County Landfill: 8 am to 4 pm
Eubanks and Walnut Grove WRCs: 8 am to 6 pm
High Rock, Ferguson, and Bradshaw WRCs: CLOSED

Friday, April 3, 2026: No recycling collection. Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, April 4th. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.
Saturday, April 4, 2026: Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, April 4th. The Landfill/Disposal Centers and Waste and Recycling Centers will be open normal hours.
Sunday, April 5, 2026: The Waste and Recycling Centers will be closed.

Due to severe weather, the Solid Waste Administrative Office, Landfill, and all Waste & Recycling Centers will close at 12:00 PM (noon) on Monday, March 16. Curbside recycling collection services will also end at noon.

If your recycling was not collected today due to weather conditions, please secure your recycling cart and place it curbside by 7:00 AM on Tuesday, March 17. Services will resume as road and weather conditions allow.

📍 Mulch and compost (sold at regular price) are available for purchase Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon at the Orange County Landfill located at 1514 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill. Prices subject to change.
