Congratulations to Terrill Bell for receiving the Thriving Tiger of the Month award! Mr. Bell was nominated by multiple staff members who spoke about his welcoming attitude, positivity and ability to wear multiple hats in his role. As the first face that visitors to our school see, these skills are paramount for our Thriving Village. Thank you to Mr. Bell for doing such a great job each and every day!

Congratulations to CHHS Biotechnology, Research and Development Teacher, Clare Matusevich on her recognition as a state finalist for the NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Matusevich was recently recognized at the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools Board of Education meeting. She will attend a weeklong professional development and the state winner will be announced on October 29th.

This morning without any extra credit, brownie points, nothing put into Infinite Campus, some of our students remembered 9/11. On this 25th anniversary, these students woke up before light, met at Keenan Stadium at 5:30 am, listened to speeches from those who served, and when told, started walking stairs. The over 2000 stairs they completed, represented what the firefighters and other first responders walked up the towers on that day.

These students did this not for recognition, but, because they want to remember. Hats off to these students and to their teacher, Travis Adkinson, who led them.

Welcome, Dr. Greene!

Chapel Hill High School leadership announcement! 🐯 We are pleased to announce that Dr. Patrick Greene has been approved by the CHCCS Board of Education as the next principal of Chapel Hill High School!

Dr. Greene, who in 2022 was named the Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year in recognition of his outstanding leadership and service to public education, is an accomplished educational leader with more than two decades of experience serving North Carolina public schools.

Since 2012, the aptly-named Dr. Greene has led Greene Central High School, guiding the school from low-performing status to becoming a Model STEM School of Distinction while increasing student achievement and graduation rates. Prior to that, he served as principal of Greene County Early College High School, where the school earned recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School.

"I am honored to join the Chapel Hill High School community and excited to begin this new chapter,” said Dr. Greene. “I look forward to getting to know our students, staff, families and alumni while building on the school's tradition of excellence. Together, we will continue creating an environment where every student is challenged, supported and inspired to reach their full potential."

Beyond his work in schools, Dr. Greene has been a statewide advocate for public education, serving in numerous leadership roles that support principals, educators and students across North Carolina while helping develop the next generation of school leaders as an adjunct professor at East Carolina University.

Dr. Greene has earned four degrees from East Carolina University, including a Doctorate of Education, and was both a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and North Carolina Principal Fellow. His career has been defined by a commitment to academic excellence, student opportunity, and strong school communities.

Dr. Greene takes over for Dr. Steven Sullivan, who served with great dedication as the principal of Chapel Hill High School until health challenges required him to step away. We remain deeply grateful for his leadership and service to our school community.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to Ms. Jackie Ellis for her steady, reassuring guidance throughout the 2025-26 school year, and to Ms. Allison Scercy for her vital support as our current Interim Principal. We also want to extend our deepest appreciation to the entire CHHS administrative team and staff for their unwavering commitment and care during this period of transition.
