The Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps is pleased to offer two community CPR classes this November. Whether you want an official American Heart Association (AHA) certification or simply want to learn lifesaving skills to help family and friends, we have a class for you.

Sunday, November 8 | 9:00 AM – approximately noon
AHA Heartsaver CPR Class
Learn essential CPR skills and earn an American Heart Association Heartsaver card upon successful completion. This class is ideal for community members who want formal CPR training and certification.

Sunday, November 22 | 10:00 AM – approximately noon
Friends & Family CPR Class
Learn the basics of CPR and how to respond when someone experiences a cardiac emergency. This informal class is a great opportunity to gain confidence and learn skills that could help you save the life of someone you love. No certification card will be issued.

Location: CVAC Headquarters, 233 N. Greeley Avenue, Chappaqua, NY

Space is limited! To reserve your spot in either class, please email [email protected] and indicate which class you would like to attend.
Sudden cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time. Knowing CPR can make a tremendous difference while waiting for emergency responders to arrive. Join CVAC, learn a lifesaving skill, and help make our community safer. You never know when someone may need you!

CVAC’s volunteers had their busiest week of 2026 with 29 ambulance calls including the following:
• Several automobile crashes
• Standby with Chappaqua Fire at house fire
• Patient with an eye injury as a result of an assault
• Patient who was hemorrhaging

CVAC responded to two automobile crashes this past week where there were multiple patients and which required a response from both of our ambulances. Fall in Chappaqua and Millwood is a beautiful time of year. But autumn also brings driving hazards that can increase the risk of motor vehicle accidents. As you enjoy the scenery, CVAC encourages everyone to keep these safety tips in mind:
• Watch for wet leaves. Fallen leaves can become slippery when wet, reducing tire traction and making it harder to stop. Slow down and leave extra space between your vehicle and the car ahead.
• Be alert for deer. Deer are particularly active during the fall, especially around dawn and dusk. Scan the sides of the road, and remember that where there is one deer, there may be others.
• Adjust for the weather. Rain, fog, and wet pavement can reduce visibility and increase stopping distances. Slow down and use your headlights when visibility is poor.
• Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. With daylight hours getting shorter, be especially careful near intersections, crosswalks, and residential streets.
• Put distractions away. Keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the wheel, and your attention on driving.
At CVAC, we'd much rather see you enjoying the fall season than responding to a motor vehicle accident.

Do you have expired prescriptions or medications sitting in your medicine cabinet? Now is a great time to clean them out — and help keep our community safe! The Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps encourages residents to safely dispose of expired and unneeded medications using the medication collection bins at the New Castle Police Department. Proper medication disposal is an important step in protecting your family and our environment. Unused medications left at home can accidentally be taken by children or others, contribute to medication misuse, or be taken by mistake when prescriptions change. Flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can also create environmental concerns.
Here are a few simple steps to help:
• Check your medicine cabinet for expired or unwanted medications.
• Bring them to the collection bins at the New Castle Police Department for safe disposal.
• Keep medications securely stored until you can drop them off.
Please remember that safe medication disposal helps prevent accidental poisonings and reduces the risk of prescription drug misuse. At CVAC, we respond when emergencies happen, but we also believe that prevention is one of the best ways to protect our community.

Fourteen ambulance calls this past week including for the following:
• Several patients injured in falls

Fall in Chappaqua and Millwood brings beautiful foliage, cooler temperatures, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. But those colorful leaves can also create a hidden safety hazard. Wet or damp leaves can become surprisingly slippery, especially on sidewalks, steps, driveways, and walkways. Add uneven surfaces, fallen branches, and less daylight, and the risk of a fall can increase. A few simple precautions can help keep you—and your family—safe:
• Watch where you walk. Slow down on leaf-covered or wet surfaces and use handrails on stairs.
• Light your way. As the days get shorter, make sure walkways, steps, and entrances are well lit.
• Keep paths clear. Remove leaves, branches, and other debris from frequently used walkways.
• Don't rush. Take your time, particularly when carrying groceries, packages, or other items that can block your view.
• Wear appropriate footwear. Shoes with good traction can make a big difference on wet or slippery surfaces.
And remember, falls can happen to anyone—but they can be particularly serious for older adults. So, watch your step so you don’t need to call 911
