We’re all pedestrians at some point. Whether you’re walking across a parking lot, crossing the street, or enjoying a walk around town, safety is a shared responsibility.

πŸš— Drivers: Slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for pedestrians, especially in parking lots and near crosswalks and intersections.

🚢 Pedestrians: Follow the rules of the road, use sidewalks when available, and cross at marked crosswalks or intersections whenever possible.

πŸ…ΏοΈ In parking lots: Stay alert for vehicles backing out of parking spaces. Avoid walking behind a vehicle that is running or has its reverse lights on, and don’t assume the driver can see you.

πŸ‘€ Make eye contact with drivers before crossing and never assume you’ve been seen.

Slow down. Stay alert. Protect lives. The next person crossing could be you or someone you love.

πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ A Safer Crossing Starts with the Button πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

Our bike paths cross several busy roadways, and those flashing crosswalk lights are there for a reason.

When you reach a crossing equipped with a push button:

πŸ”˜ Push the button to activate the warning lights
πŸ‘€ Stop and look both ways before entering the roadway
πŸš— Make sure vehicles have stopped before you cross
🚢 Stay within the marked crosswalk
🚴 Bicyclists should also activate the lights before crossing

The flashing lights help alert approaching drivers that someone is waiting to cross.

Don’t skip the button. Give drivers the extra warning that you’re there.

πŸš— Drivers: Flashing lights mean someone is using the crossing. Slow down, stay alert, and be prepared to yield.

Dusk is a danger zone.

As daylight fades, visibility drops and pedestrians, bicyclists, and even wildlife can be harder to see.

Whether you’re heading home from work, running errands, or traveling through town, take a little extra care as the sun goes down.

πŸš— Slow down
πŸ‘€ Watch closely at crosswalks and intersections
↔️ Increase your following distance
🦌 Be alert for wildlife, especially on rural roads
😴 Never drive drowsy

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Stay alert and watch for everyone sharing the road.

🌟 Wear bright or reflective clothing
πŸ”¦ Use a white front light and red rear light
🚲 Make sure your bike has reflectors
πŸ‘€ Stay alert and ride predictably

πŸš— Drivers: Keep an eye out for bicyclists, especially in low light conditions. Give them plenty of room when passing.

πŸ’‘ Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially at dawn, dusk, or after dark.
πŸ“΅ Avoid distractions and keep your attention on your surroundings.
